The Lead Dispatcher oversees daily dispatch operations, ensuring efficient scheduling and coordination of drivers, equipment, and service vehicles across multiple regions. This role serves as the primary liaison between dispatch staff, field personnel, and management, ensuring compliance with FMCSA and DOT regulations, optimizing service delivery, and maintaining high standards of customer service. The Lead Dispatcher mentors dispatch team members and supports strategic planning and performance improvement initiatives. Essential Job Functions
Coordinate and oversee dispatch operations across multiple states using routing and dispatch software. Lead and mentor dispatch team members, providing training, guidance, and performance feedback. Develop and optimize daily routes to ensure timely and cost-effective service delivery. Monitor driver performance and safety, ensuring compliance with FMCSA and DOT regulations. Serve as primary point of contact for escalated customer service issues and complex service requests. Maintain accurate dispatch records, including service logs, route data, and driver documentation. Collaborate with management to address regulatory concerns and implement corrective actions. Review and approve dispatch schedules, ensuring alignment with operational goals and customer needs. Analyze operational data to identify trends, improve efficiency, and support reporting. Ensure proper documentation of driver qualifications, hours of service, and regulatory compliance. Support special projects and continuous improvement initiatives as assigned. Other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities
While this role does not have direct reports, the Lead Dispatcher is responsible for guiding dispatch staff, monitoring driver performance, and collaborating with management to ensure safe and compliant operations. Qualifications
High School Diploma/GED required; Associate’s Degree preferred. 3–5 years of dispatching experience in a FMCSA trucking operation, including multi-state operations. 1–2 years of supervisory or team lead experience. Experience in waste management, transportation, or environmental services industries is a plus. Proficiency with dispatching and routing software. Strong knowledge of the Department of Transportation and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Word. Excellent communication, problem‑solving, and leadership skills. Ability to manage high call volumes and prioritize tasks effectively. Bilingual (English and Spanish) is preferred. Physical Requirements
Ability to remain seated for extended periods while monitoring routes and communicating with drivers. Frequent use of hands for typing, operating phones, radios, and office equipment. Ability to read screens, maps, and paperwork accurately. Occasional standing, bending, or reaching to retrieve files or operate office machines. Ability to lift and carry small office items or files (typically up to 10–20 lbs). Work is usually indoors in a controlled office environment. May require quick movement during emergencies or high‑volume call periods. Equal Employment
