Area Supervisor Ross Stores, Inc. is a leading off‑price retailer with more than 2,200 stores and a strong track record of growth. As an Area Supervisor, you will manage a specific area of the store and perform general operations when acting as Manager on Duty.

General Purpose Area Supervisors are responsible for opening and closing the store, supervising associates, maintaining a friendly shopping environment, ensuring proper merchandise presentation, and executing company operational processes.

Essential Functions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments

Practice safe behaviors and maintain a high level of awareness on the sales floor.

Correct or report unsafe conditions to Store Leadership.

Secure building entry/exit, control security, EAS devices, cash office, armored carrier pickups and register area.

Clear egress routes and manage customer safety incidents.

Test fire alarm systems and respond to after‑hours alarms.

Customer Service

Treat all customers, associates, and leaders with respect.

Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times.

Recognize associates via company recognition programs.

Personal and Store Brand

Represent and support the company brand.

Maintain a professional appearance and enforce the dress code.

Keep all areas clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standard.

Responsible for daily trash removal.

General Merchandising

Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns meet company standards.

Receive merchandise trucks and process inbound deliveries.

Maintain cleanliness and organization of stockrooms.

Assist with merchandise placement on the sales floor.

Secure and process back‑stock, perform floor moves and signing.

Conduct re‑wraps as needed.

Prevent loss due to damage and comply with monthly presentation guidelines.

Loss Prevention

Comply with Loss Prevention Awareness Program and maintain a strong presence on the floor.

Safeguard confidential, cash, credit card, and merchandise information.

Maintain PVM system, conduct “Code 50” inspections, and follow best practices.

Front End Supervision and Operations

Ensure associates execute front‑end procedures to company standards.

Maintain pace and presence to expedite customer wait times.

Train and coach associates on cash registers, shortage controls, and other front‑end procedures.

Manage associate break schedules.

Ensure equipment works and supplies are stocked.

Guarantee go‑backs are processed correctly.

Teach "Scan and Bag" best practice.

Maximize merchandising on the front end.

Fitting Rooms

Maintain cleanliness and audit garment tags.

Ensure go‑back compliance and proper ticketing, scanning, and security tagging.

Administrative Duties as Assigned by Store Manager

Conduct cash pulls and bank deposits.

Handle front‑end controls for refunds, approvals, and register management.

Administer payroll, punch edits, scheduling, and reporting.

Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Special Skills Required

Excellent verbal communication skills

Fluency in English

Prior customer service and supervisory experience preferred

Familiarity with point‑of‑sale equipment and applications

Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations in a retail environment

Ability to work evenings and weekends

Physical Requirements / ADA Use all store equipment including PDTs, registers, and PCs. Stand, walk, and move up to 100% of working time. Regularly bend at waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop. Occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs. Use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other assigned supplies. Stockroom associates must push, pull, and lift more than 20 lbs.
