Overview Keiland Construction is currently seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator who is proficient in the operation of a variety of heavy equipment and trucks used in construction to join our team.
This position is responsible for operating and transporting a variety of heavy motorized equipment in a safe and effective manner. Applicant must be detail-oriented, organized, work well with others, and able to complete a wide variety of tasks and work with minimal supervision. Operation of heavy equipment includes operating excavator/dozer for placement of various materials, drainage and road improvements with fine grading capabilities required.
Responsibilities and Duties Operate various pieces of heavy construction equipment to perform fine grading and finishing, sloping and banking, backfilling, demolition, ditching, loading, excavating and stockpiling.
Must possess fine grade capabilities on dozer and excavator; required.
Operate all heavy equipment in compliance with the company's operating safety policies and procedures.
Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.
Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment, and clean, lubricate and refill the equipment as necessary.
Ensure a sound understanding of the issues involving ground disturbance.
Perform routine cleaning and maintenance to ensure smooth operation of the equipment.
Ensure company equipment and material is maintained, kept cleaned, and stored in a safe manner.
Operates construction or power equipment, such as crawler dozer, broom, backhoe, man-lift, dump truck, road grader, front-end loader, excavators, skid steers, etc.
Performs maintenance and maintains maintenance and servicing records for all equipment, vehicles and tools.
Operates in a safe and responsible manner.
Complies with site policies and safety procedures.
Follow safety and security procedures and determine appropriate action. Report potentially unsafe conditions and use materials and equipment properly.
Operate heavy equipment such as front end loaders, dozers and graders in a safe and effective manner to minimize the risk of injury, property damage or loss of life.
Communicate with individuals on the jobsite to ensure the appropriate task is performed.
Ensure all equipment is safely and securely stored.
Follow signal directions while safely operating equipment.
Ensure no digging is done unless all safety precautions have been taken to ensure lines are not broken.
Requirements and Qualifications Qualified candidates must have
Self-motivated individual with strong desire to succeed
Must pass a drug/alcohol screen
5+ years experience in heavy construction
Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment with minimal supervision is crucial
Ability to read, understand, and comply with safety requirements and procedures at all times
Must be able to set storm water structures and piping including RCP and culverts of various types.
Drug & alcohol-free workplace
Verifiable references
Willingness to learn, be trained and obtain various certifications
Proven ability to operate heavy equipment
Knowledge of light and heavy equipment operation and maintenance
Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade
Knowledge of basic equipment inspection and maintenance including visual deficiencies, tire pressure, checking all fluid levels
Be available to work overtime as required
Regular attendance and dependability is a must
Work outdoors in all types of weather
Working Conditions and Physical Effort Performance of the essential duties of this position includes the following physical demands and/or working conditions:
Regularly works in outside weather conditions; work environment may include exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, noise, and performing inspections in confined spaces.
Extensive physical effort. Requires stair climbing; heavy lifting, handling, pushing or moving objects up to 50 lbs. and occasionally up to 100 pounds. Constant standing/walking.
Ability to perform field work involving exertion of a moderate amount of physical effort to twist, stoop, bend, squat, kneel, crawl, lift, climb ladders, climb stairs and walk on uneven ground.
Work independently (unassisted) to perform duties.
Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
Frequently required to stand, talk, hear, walk, sit; climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch; or crawl and smell.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, requiring basic safety precautions.
