Director of Community Initiatives . The organization provides a wide range of social services and community programs across the city, grounded in compassion, dignity, and accessibility.
Position Summary The
Director of Community Initiatives
will launch and lead a new vertical focused on designing and delivering content-rich, relationship-centered programming for emerging Jewish leaders. This role will help expand the organization’s visibility within the broader Jewish community and create meaningful pathways for engagement across donors, volunteers, advocates, and community members.
The Director will collaborate closely with internal program leaders to ensure programming remains mission-aligned, relevant, and reflective of the organization’s frontline work.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, coordinate, and execute
at least one in-person engagement program per month , which may include:
Private dinners and parlor meetings
Happy hours and community gatherings
Advocacy and learning missions
Ensure all programs follow a consistent framework that promotes meaningful dialogue, connection, and exposure to the organization’s work.
Build strong working relationships with internal Program Directors to ensure accurate, timely, and aligned program content.
Stay informed of evolving needs and opportunities across departments to anticipate and design relevant engagement initiatives.
Cultivate and strengthen relationships with Jewish communal organizations, synagogues, educational institutions, and networks to broaden visibility and reach.
Identify and engage individuals and groups who may be underrepresented or disconnected from existing communal spaces.
Develop pathways that move participants into ongoing roles as volunteers, advocates, and donors.
Collaborate with leadership to support donor cultivation and stewardship efforts tied to community programming.
Track and report on program outcomes, engagement trends, and partnership development.
Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Exceptional relationship-building and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to create welcoming, inclusive, and meaningful group experiences.
Strategic thinker who can connect program design to long-term organizational goals.
Confident public representative and skilled facilitator of group discussions.
Strong collaborator who can also work independently when needed.
Comfort in fast-paced, dynamic environments with changing needs.
Deep commitment to the organization’s mission and values.
Qualifications
Minimum of
5 years of experience
in Jewish communal engagement, donor stewardship, community programming, or a related field.
Strong project management and logistical planning skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
Experience facilitating group dialogue and managing events from concept through execution.
Special Requirements
Regular evening and weekend work based on programming needs.
Ability to travel throughout New York City using public transportation.
