The company:
A large, well-established Texas state government agency undergoing a multi-year mainframe-to-cloud modernization program.
Role and Responsibilities:
Perform advanced data modeling and architecture work to migrate legacy hierarchical mainframe data into modern relational and cloud data warehouse environments
Design and build normalized 3NF models for transactional systems and dimensional star/snowflake schemas (Facts & Dimensions) for analytics
Analyze existing IMS hierarchical databases and COBOL programs to create accurate source-to-target mappings
Produce high-quality data architecture deliverables: ERDs, data dictionaries, pipeline topologies, process flows, and technical documentation
Collaborate with ETL developers (Informatica/SSIS), cloud engineers, and application teams to deliver production-ready database solutions using Oracle, SQL Server, and Snowflake
Ensure all models adhere to security, governance, and PII classification standards
Support change data capture (CDC), bulk data movement, code promotion via Git, and production deployments
Provide clear status reporting and present modeling solutions to both technical and business stakeholders
Job Requirements:
5+ years hands‑on experience as a Senior Data Modeler / Database Architect delivering production data models
5+ years creating data architecture artifacts (ERDs, data dictionaries, source-to-target mappings, etc.)
Expert‑level relational (3NF) and dimensional (star/snowflake, facts & dimensions) modeling
Strong proficiency with data modeling tools (DBSchema, ER/Studio, SqlDBM, ERwin, etc.)
Real‑world experience with at least three of: Oracle, SQL Server, Snowflake, and legacy mainframe IMS hierarchical databases
Solid understanding of ETL tools/concepts (Informatica and/or SSIS)
Comfortable promoting database objects through environments using Git or similar version control
Excellent documentation and communication skills
Highly Preferred:
Oil & Gas or regulatory/compliance domain experience
Snowflake experience or SnowPro certification
Exposure to Power BI, MuleSoft, Salesforce, or GoAnywhere
Experience with data governance and PII handling in regulated environments
