Job Summary The Advanced Endoscopy Technician possesses advanced knowledge and skills necessary to perform advanced interventional endoscopic procedures that support and assist the work of the physician, RN and Endoscopy Team. Responsible for the care of instrumentation before, during and after endoscopy procedures.

Responsibilities

Utilize knowledge of the anatomy, physiology, and pathology of the GI tract and demonstrate advanced technical procedural skills including EUS machine, Endoscopy processors, ERBE, placement of esophageal, duodenal and colonic stents, electrohydraulic lithotripsy, cyst gastrostomies, pancreatic necrosectomies, single balloon enteroscopy, radiofrequency ablation, and use of Omega medical imaging equipment.

Facilitate and provide staff training in advanced endoscopic procedures and oversee scope handling, preparation, and care.

Demonstrate advanced knowledge in interventions used during endoscopy including wire manipulations, clips, assisting in performing cyst gastrostomy and combined EUS/ERCP procedures.

Assist the physician with capturing fluoroscopic images, image transfers, troubleshoot equipment and tools, utilizing proficiency in fluoroscopy equipment.

Assist physician in multidisciplinary OR procedures in collaboration with other teams.

Label and send specimens to the proper department/location for analysis.

Communicate patient status, technical equipment, or unit concerns to necessary healthcare workers.

Prepare procedure area and equipment for procedure.

Maintain, clean, and store endoscopic equipment and supplies.

Reprocess flexible endoscopes according to policy.

Precept new endoscopy technicians.

Transport and deliver items, equipment, and medications (excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility.

Maintain reasonable regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.

Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.

Complete all Orlando Health mandatory education.

Attend department staff meetings as required.

Assume responsibility for professional development and continuing education.

Participate in nursing Environments of Care activities as assigned.

Qualifications Education / Training High school graduate or equivalent.

Licensure / Certification

Maintain current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification.

Must meet one of the following:

The Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates Program with the designation of Gastroenterology Technician Specialist (GTS), or

Certification Board of Sterile Processing (CBSPD) Flexible Scope Certification.

Two (2) additional years of endoscopy experience.

Experience

Certified team members must have three (3) years of endoscopy experience.

Non-certified team members must have five (5) years of endoscopy experience.
