Job Description The Nurse Clinician will work in a multidisciplinary environment requiring exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, physicians, and clinical and administrative units. The role utilizes nursing skills to perform patient assessments via phone or in person, implement interventions and resolve patient care issues using independent judgment and creativity. The clinician is also responsible for initiating and organizing patient education for the unit’s population.

Responsibilities

Maintain a safe and clean work environment, ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and report deficiencies to the supervisor immediately.

Provide pre‑attending care for patients, performing comprehensive assessments and documenting all findings in the medical record. Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with release protocols.

Perform routine nursing duties, including phlebotomy, medication administration, vital signs measurement, and lab specimen preparation. Demonstrate competency with specialty procedures such as conscious sedation, chemotherapy administration, pain pump adjustment, and wound excision and drainage.

Interpret abnormalities detected in tests and procedures and take appropriate remedial action, documenting all interventions in the patient medical record.

Communicate and collaborate with clinical and administrative departments and outside agencies to coordinate patient care.

Triage and prioritize incoming telephone calls using clinical assessment skills and service standards, documenting all assessments.

Manage urgent/emergent medical situations according to organizational protocols, operating emergency equipment as required.

Serve as a resource for staff and physicians for daily problem solving and decision‑making, delegating tasks to LPNs and MAs as permitted by Illinois law and protocols.

Comply with all patient‑care policies and suggest improvements, ensuring timely implementation of new procedures.

Initiate and coordinate patient education, ensuring patients understand materials and can demonstrate learning when appropriate. Provide teaching to staff and participate in community outreach and support group education.

Qualifications Required:

Associate’s degree in Nursing

Graduate from an accredited school of nursing

State‑licensed Registered Nurse in the state of employment

Certification in Basic CPR

At least 2 years of relevant clinical experience in an acute or ambulatory care environment

Preferred:

Bachelor’s degree in nursing (may be required for certain positions)

Additional Information There is a $10,000 sign‑on bonus available for this position for external candidates and candidates who have not worked at NM within the last year. Internal candidates and rehires within the last year are ineligible.
