Construction Estimator – Washington DC / Baltimore Metro

About the Opportunity A growing General Contractor in the DC–Baltimore region is seeking a detail-oriented Construction Estimator to support preconstruction efforts on a diverse pipeline of projects. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys diving into drawings, analyzing scopes, building relationships with subcontractors, and creating accurate, well-organized estimates.
You’ll work closely with senior leadership, project managers, and field teams to ensure proposals are competitive, realistic, and aligned with client expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare detailed estimates, quantity takeoffs, and cost analyses for commercial construction projects
Review drawings, specs, addenda, and RFIs to fully understand project scope
Solicit and evaluate subcontractor bids; build reliable trade coverage
Develop conceptual estimates based on limited information when needed
Build and maintain cost databases, historical pricing, and unit cost assumptions
Collaborate with the PM team on budgets, phasing, and VE options
Assist in proposal development and preconstruction meetings
Maintain relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and clients
Requirements
2+ years of estimating experience with a GC or subcontractor
Proficiency with takeoff & estimating software (Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, ProEst, BuildingConnected, etc.)
Strong understanding of construction means, methods, and trade scopes
Ability to read drawings, identify scope gaps, and flag risks
Skilled at organizing information, building clean estimate packages, and meeting deadlines
Solid communication with internal teams and external partners
Ground-up or interiors experience both acceptable (can tailor if needed)
