The Tax Senior will apply industry knowledge and experience to advise clients on tax implications and other accounting matters affecting their business objectives, with an emphasis on unclaimed property compliance and consulting. This role combines tax and accounting skills—such as project management, reconciliation, financial auditing, internal controls, and process/system enhancements—with a consultative approach to analyzing and modeling sporadic data sets. The Senior will recommend alternative actions, identify compliance methods for unclaimed property statutes and regulations, manage presentations to clients and states, coordinate compliance, audit defense, and VDAs, and lead client expectations and deliverables. Working closely with senior partners and managers, the Tax Senior will also contribute to marketing, business development, and policy updates, ensuring new unclaimed property regulations are applied to engagements. The role includes oversight of a team of SALT associates and interns, training them on relevant software, and evaluating performance.
Job Duties
Identifies complex situations requiring research, outlines issues, and selects appropriate research sources.
Analyzes researched facts and composes detailed reports of findings.
Builds relationships with state Department of Tax/Revenue, Department of Treasury, and other agencies.
Maintains awareness of latest statutory, regulatory, and case‑law changes affecting unclaimed property.
Unclaimed Property Compliance
Obtains, manipulates, and processes client data for annual escheat returns.
Uses FSI Track, BDO Global Portal, and other systems for data gathering.
Performs reconciliations to verify accuracy of reported data.
Composes responses to state notices and assists with due‑diligence letter processing.
Supports client payment processing and exam readiness.
Communicates regularly with clients and the UP team.
Unclaimed Property Consulting
Drafts memorandums, opinions, and other documentation on escheat issues.
Collaborates with UP leadership on escheat planning and policy development.
Participates in policy and procedure development; addresses internal controls.
Represents clients at audits and voluntary disclosures; mentors on best practices.
Identifies gift‑card planning opportunities and implements solutions.
Conducts client interviews, onsite visits, and workplans.
Compiles ledger detail, banking records, and source data for escheat items.
Prepares and reviews scheduling decks for sporadic data analysis.
Assists clients with remediation and refund review processes.
Builds exposure models to calculate escheat exposures.
Applies state tax consulting sub‑specialties and communicates with other STS professionals.
Ensures engagement letters are adopted and manages engagements.
Develops consultative selling strategies and manages multiple projects simultaneously.
Actively participates in trade organizations and public speaking events.
Maintains CRM entries and client expectations.
Unclaimed Property Related Software
Utilizes FSI Track, tax research databases, and other tax‑related software.
Maintains working knowledge of GL systems (SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, AS/400, Epicor).
Participates in learning and executing technology enhancements for the UP group.
Education Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Economics or Finance (required).
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to multi‑task independently or in a team environment.
Proven ability to manage deadline‑driven projects.

Advanced knowledge of tax standards and filing requirements.
Comprehensive understanding of tax issues and their effects on clients.
Experience
Two (2) or more years of prior experience in tax, financial statement auditing, or forensic accounting in a public accounting firm or in‑house organization (required).
License/Certifications
CPA, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or IRS Enrolled Agent (or equivalent). Preferred.
Software
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel and Word) (required).
Experience with Power BI, Alteryx, and other software (preferred).

NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $73,500 - $131,250
