Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Sr Principal Software Engineer (Regional Applications) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Huntsville, Alabama. Position Overview: The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program integrates the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, to see the battle develop collectively, and to dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapons systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives. This position is for a Software Engineer on the C2BMC program. Responsible for software development in the Java language for one of the Regional Applications teams in Huntsville (Battle Management, System-Arch, or Track Server). Essential Functions: Command and control system application development
Software Integration and formal testing
Implement Cyber Security/RMF requirements
Present advanced concepts to non-software engineers, including senior program and military leaders
Mentor and teach junior engineers
Performance modeling
Work with microservices
DevSecOps and/or build management work
Designing and building Graphical User Interfaces
Flexibility and willingness to take on unanticipated tasks
Work independently, and possess the poise and flexibility required to work in a highly dynamic environment
Work effectively in a rapid-paced, team environment
Provides specialized expertise within multiple systems, software disciplines, as well as general knowledge of related disciplines, applications implications, and customer areas
Performs in-depth analysis and technical support of systems software products, including complex problem resolution, design, development, testing, operational integration, and user support
Maintains currency, debugs, and configures related software products
Works from specifications to develop or modify operating systems applications
Assists with design, coding, benchmark testing, debugging, and documentation of programs
Interfaces with other system support groups to resolve problems, set standards, and improve overall efficiency of the operating system
Designs, codes, tests, and implements tools for operations automation
Works on most phases of software systems programming applications, and may require minor instruction and guidance in other phases
Leadership position on small software-focused teams may be required
Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Computer Science, Technology, Engineering, Software Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 8 years of related experience or a Master’s degree in a related discipline and 6 years of experience, or PhD and 4 years of experience, or 12 years of related experience instead of a degree may be considered
Applicants must have a current active in-scope DoD-issued
Secret
security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start
DoD 8140 certification at
IAT Level II or higher
is required to start
Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs
Strong Java/J2EE experience
Knowledge of coding standards, automated testing, automated build pipelines, and configuration management
Experience developing enterprise applications on
Linux
and
Windows
Extensive experience with Java foundation classes and toolkits
Agile team leadership
Mentoring and guiding junior engineers
Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to review performance and operational issues, identify root causes, recommend, design, and implement solutions
Use of common software development and management tools such as:
Maven
Git/GitHub
Nexus
Eclipse
Experience with agile development methodologies
Understanding of standard system engineering design artifacts such as:
Use Cases
SysML diagrams
Preferred Qualifications: Current and active TS/SCI clearance is highly desired
Knowledge of server-side/database development, computer system administration; Net-centric, horizontal integration program expertise is a plus

Salary Range:
$131,100 - $196,700 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
