Job Description As the Tax Digital Consulting Manager, you’ll implement and build third‑party tax systems with major third‑party ERP and billing platforms (SAP, Oracle, Workday, PeopleSoft, Great Plains), as well as custom billing systems for clients across a wide variety of industries. You will collaborate with team members, practice leadership, and our diverse client base to gather requirements, design, build, and test implementations. From day one, you’ll play a key role in the requirements gathering, design, build, and testing of third‑party software products and our own custom solutions to meet client needs.
Your day‑to‑day may include:
Serve as the project manager on assigned third‑party tax software implementations (Vertex, Avalara, Sovos, Thomson Reuters, ADP, Billsoft) and custom software development projects
Manage assigned system integration projects that involve major ERP and billing systems such as SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft, JD Edwards, etc.
Requirements analysis and design for indirect tax software implementations
Manage programming for custom system interfaces and modification of preexisting interfaces
Manage testing and support of assigned system go‑live projects
Develop and deliver key project documentation including requirements documents, design documents, and test plans
Help develop and lead staff to enable them to perform core project activities
Participate in sales meetings and proposal development meetings
Network and develop key relationships both within Grant Thornton and externally
Other duties as assigned
Technical Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related technical field
Must have one of the following credentials:
Project Management Professional, Six Sigma, Lean, or equivalent certification
Master’s degree in accounting, tax business administration, finance, or information systems tax
Certified Member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation
Equivalent accounting certification or law license in home country (e.g., Chartered Accountant)
Five years of experience with SAP/Oracle functional and/or technical roles
Two years of Oracle EBS/ERP Cloud/SAP ABAP design and development experience
Deep technical understanding of SAP or Oracle, including customization path, table structures, and core functional Order‑to‑Cash and Procure‑to‑Pay streams
SAP Namespace development a plus
Experience writing documentation for ERP implementations
Experience managing and developing team members for these types of implementations
Experience in public accounting is a plus
Strong computer skills required
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to travel as needed
Salary Range (Chicago, IL) Between $136,000 and $204,000
Salary Range (Los Angeles, CA; Bellevue, WA; New York, NY) Between $146,000 and $220,300
Salary Range (San Francisco and San Jose) Between $156,400 and $234,600
