Job Description The Core Tax Services (CTS) Senior Manager – ASC740 is responsible for advising clients on the tax implications of their business objectives, evaluating and selecting alternative actions to lessen tax burden and cost of compliance, and identifying different methods of complying with tax regulations. The manager acts as the primary client contact for complex corporate tax and ASC 740 issues, communicates potential risks and changes in tax policy, and contributes to marketing, networking, and business development.

Job Duties

Tax Compliance

Ensure clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens.

Conduct top‑level reviews of tax returns and resolve any issues.

Communicate identified tax accrual review issues to client and Assurance.

Plan and review tax processes, budgeting, staffing, monitoring engagement process, timely billing, and accounts receivable collection.

Manage client relationships and expectations; provide timely advice.

Research

Identify research needs and frame issues concisely.

Develop research methodology, train staff, and involve firm specialists.

ASC 740 (fka FAS 109/FIN 48) Tax Accruals

Apply ASC 740 and firm policies proactively.

Explain income tax provision components, uncertain tax positions, and related complexities to clients.

Coordinate with Assurance on planning and execution of tax accrual reviews.

Review tax provisions, prepared workpapers, and manage Specialized Tax Services as needed.

Tax Consulting

Develop, recommend, and implement strategies to maximize client benefits.

Consider applicable CTS and STS consulting specialties.

Serve as technical resource and enforce compliance with firm policy on Written Tax Advice.

Assist with exam support and delegate projects appropriately.

Tax Specialization

Maintain in‑depth knowledge of areas such as corporate, state & local, transfer pricing, credits, incentives, etc.

Organize and conduct internal CPE training and mentor associates on ASC 740.

Strategy Development

Introduce and develop strategies to improve client positions or firm efficiency.

Lead marketing campaigns and present strategies to clients.

Collaborate with National Tax and Specialized Tax Services.

Other duties as required

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise associates and senior associates on all projects.

Review work and provide comments.

Train associates on software tools.

Act as a career advisor.

Schedule and manage workload.

Provide performance feedback.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Taxation, required.

Master’s degree in Accounting or Taxation, preferred.

Experience

Eight (8) or more years of prior experience, required.

Experience managing ASC 740 computations for private and public clients, required.

Prior supervisory experience, required.

Multinational client experience, preferred.

License/Certifications

CPA certification, attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or IRS Enrolled Agent (EA) required.

Software

Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat.

Experience with tax research databases such as BNA and RIA; proficiency in tax compliance software (GoFileRoom, GoSystemRS, Caseware, BNA Depreciation Software, etc.) preferred.

Compensation & Benefits Individual salaries are determined after consideration of qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.

California: $146,000 – $200,000

Colorado: $120,000 – $180,000

Illinois: $140,000 – $190,000

Maryland: $150,000 – $180,000

Massachusetts: $150,000 – $206,000

Minnesota: $130,000 – $190,000

New Jersey: $155,000 – $200,000

NYC/Long Island/Westchester: $190,000 – $225,000

Washington: $150,000 – $190,000

Washington DC: $162,000 – $190,000
