Senior Substation Protection & Control Engineer (Remote)
Location:
Remote US, preferred Central or Eastern Time Zone
ICF is seeking a Senior Substation Protection & Control Engineer to design relay, protection, and control projects for high voltage substations ranging from 12 kV to 500 kV. The role focuses on delivering high quality engineering services while working fully remotely.
Responsibilities
Design and prepare protection and control drawings, including:
Protective schemes
Substation relay one‑lines and three‑lines
AC / DC schematics
Substation panel layouts
Substation wiring diagrams and cable schedules
SCADA and communication diagrams
Perform DC and AC system calculations
Develop equipment specifications and selections based on client criteria
Create bill of materials based on design criteria
Coordinate with physical, settings, and drafting disciplines to ensure quality deliver
Participate in client meetings and conduct site visits for data gathering as required
Interpret and incorporate vendor information into design deliverables
Apply client standards related to the work
Provide field support during construction
Ensure company QA/QC processes are followed on all design packages
Continuously improve engineering and professional knowledge, skills, and performance
Minimum Qualifications
BS in Electrical, Computer, or related engineering
8+ years’ experience in protection and control engineering
Strong experience with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and MicroStation
Preferred Qualifications
Engineering in Training (EIT) license
Professional Engineer (PE) license
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
Knowledge of NEC, NESC, IEEE, and ANSI standards
Experience in design techniques, tools, and principles for technical plans and drawings

Pay Range $118,730.00 – $201,840.00 (Full‑time, Nationwide Remote Office)
