Overview
Provides patient care and technical support to anesthesiologist and certified registered nurse anesthetist by ensuring that anesthesia supplies and equipment in operating rooms, labor & delivery suites, post‑anesthesia care unit, MedSTAR, burn unit and other locations are clean and functional.
Responsibilities
Inspects and tests anesthesia equipment to ensure it is clean, ready, and in good operating condition; performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs; delivers malfunctioning equipment to Biomedical Engineering.
Assists anesthesiologist and CRNA in airway management and sets up fiberoptic equipment, invasive monitoring, transducer cables, fluid/head humidifiers, pacemakers, esophageal pacing, and electrodes.
Delivers emergency anesthesia machines, carts, and materials to operating rooms, MedSTAR, and satellite locations.
Sterilizes laryngoscope blades and fiber‑optic equipment; collects and prepares instruments for sterilization by SPD.
Draws medication into syringes, labels, and distributes to anesthesia stations; sets up stations with medications and IV fluids for emergency surgery.
Receives, inspects, and exchanges carts and bulk supplies from Medical Materials department; coordinates movement of supplies among Receiving Medical Materials, Biomedical Engineering, SPD, OR, and other areas.
Inspects and stocks Code Blue boxes, latex allergy, malignant hyperthermia, and anesthesia carts; inventories carts and stocks at par levels.
Clears and prepares anesthesia stations between surgeries and after terminal cleaning.
Assists in positioning patients for surgery.
Attends in‑service classes and seminars.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required; may require up to 1 year of technical or other specialized training in medical terminology.
Six to twelve months experience in a position involving anatomy/physiology, sterile techniques, computers, and/or electronic experience.
Ability to read and write; knowledge of grammar and arithmetic including fractions and decimals.
Proficient in using standard office/medical equipment such as typewriter, PC, data terminal, printer, calculator, telephone, fax, copier, sterilizing equipment, blood pressure cuff.
Compensation & Employment Salary: USD $19.93–$29.98 /hr.
