JAS Recruitment
Technical Sales Manager
The Technical Sales Manager is responsible for driving sales growth across North America for current and voltage transformers and sensors used in high-, medium-, and low-voltage electrical equipment. This role requires a strong technical foundation in electrical engineering, deep understanding of instrument transformers, and the ability to engage customers as a technical subject‑matter expert rather than a transactional salesperson. The Technical Sales Manager will work closely with private manufacturers of electrical equipment as well as utility and energy producers/distributors.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the full sales cycle for instrument transformers and related sensing products across high-, medium-, and low-voltage applications.
Interpret technical specifications and provide accurate, engineering-based responses to RFPs/RFQs, ensuring alignment with customer requirements.
Lead technical discussions with customers, providing guidance on product selection, installation considerations, and performance expectations.
Develop quotations and proposals based on detailed technical understanding rather than template-based processes.
Drive projects through completion by coordinating with engineering, operations, and customers to ensure proper specification, delivery, and support.
Identify new business opportunities and build relationships with two primary customer segments:
Private manufacturing companies manufacturing related electrical equipment.
Energy and utility organizations involved in the production, distribution, and monitoring of electrical power.
Preferred Qualifications
Travel extensively (approximately 60% domestic travel) to customer sites, industry events, and internal meetings.
Maintain strong awareness of U.S. electrical production and distribution systems, market trends, and customer challenges.
Support internal technical education, helping elevate the sales organization’s understanding of specifications, applications, and engineering principles.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering required; Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering strongly preferred.
Early-career hands‑on engineering experience in power generation, transformers, instrument transformers, or high‑/medium‑/low‑voltage equipment.
Demonstrated transition from engineering into a technical sales or related applications engineering or field service sales role.
Deep understanding of electrical power generation, transmission, and distribution networks within the United States.
Strong technical comprehension skills with the ability to read, interpret, and respond to complex technical specifications.
Ability and willingness to travel up to 60% domestically.
Experience selling or supporting instrument transformers, current and voltage sensing products, or related components.
Established relationships within OEM electrical equipment manufacturers or U.S. utility companies.
Salary & Benefits This position is eligible for base salary and incentive compensation between $150k - $180k, dependent on experience. Full benefits including Health, 401K, Fringe, etc benefits are available to FT employees.
