Job Description KPFF Seattle’s Transportation Team focuses on designing infrastructure that moves people and connects communities across the region. We work on a wide range of transit and transportation projects, including roadway and trail improvements, fish passage enhancements, and major infrastructure efforts throughout the Puget Sound and Pacific Northwest. Our team supports projects from early planning and feasibility through design, permitting, and construction. We collaborate closely with public agencies, transit authorities, contractors, and fellow engineers to deliver thoughtful, sustainable solutions that improve mobility, restore natural systems, and strengthen the built environment.

Located in downtown Seattle, our office is seeking an experienced

Senior Water Resources Engineer

to support major projects throughout the Pacific Northwest. This position will support transportation projects and associated hydraulic elements, primarily stormwater and fish passage design. The role requires expertise in water resources engineering related projects, including stormwater facilities design; surface water hydrology and hydraulic analysis and design; culvert and bridge hydraulics; stream and habitat restoration analysis and design; preparation of engineering and construction plans, specifications, and estimates; and coordination with regulatory agencies for project permitting. The position will perform engineering design and provide a high‑quality product to our clients.

Position Responsibilities

Support a wide range of engineering projects for roadway and transit improvements, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, site development, fish passage, and ecological restoration.

Perform stormwater related design, analysis, and report generation for roadways, bridges, airports, and related transportation infrastructure.

Provide detailed engineering calculations for design of stormwater and fish passage facilities.

Create hydrologic and hydraulic models.

Design water resources systems and facilities including hydraulic analysis for stream crossings and evaluation for fish passage and scour.

Apply knowledge of local, state, and federal fish passage and stormwater management design standards.

Develop stormwater, stream, conveyance designs, and associated grading in AutoCAD Civil 3D utilizing 3D surfaces and pipe networks.

Interface with clients and public agencies as needed.

Coordinate with teammates on projects to ensure proper and timely execution.

Work in a highly flexible, team‑oriented environment.

Qualifications

6+ years of experience in design, planning, and implementation of stormwater and hydraulic elements on transportation projects specific to hydraulic and hydrologic (H&H) design.

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with Engineering in Training certification.

Experience with design of stormwater conveyance, flow control, water quality treatment, and low impact development BMPs.

Project experience with fish passage design projects including H&H modeling, culvert design, stream restoration, and associated civil design.

Design experience using Washington State stormwater design manuals; DOE SWMMWW, WSDOT HRM, WSDOT Hydraulic Manual, WDFW Crossing Guidelines.

Proficiency and experience using hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software; MGSFlood, WWHM, Stormshed 3G, and HEC‑RAS.

H&H design calculation experience including conveyance sizing, basin hydrology, culvert sizing, and scour calculations.

Experience creating construction plan sets, specifications, and cost estimates.

Working proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Strong communication skills for coordination with clients and team members.

Energetic individual with high ethical standards and an appropriate professional image.

Physical Demands

Duties are primarily conducted in a standard office setting, requiring prolonged periods of sitting at a desk or computer table.

Occasionally may be required to lift objects weighing up to 15 lbs.

Occasionally visiting project locations and performing field inspections which may involve walking, standing, kneeling, or navigating uneven terrain.

Traveling to project sites or client meetings, which may involve driving or flying.

Compensation The base salary for this role is competitive and will be determined based on the candidate's experience, education, and skills. The expected range for a qualified candidate is

$120,000 - $150,000 annually .
