Product Engineer Lead
role at
EG4 Electronics
The Product Engineer Lead is a key technical leader within the New Product Development (NPD) team, responsible for driving mechanical design, manufacturability, and product readiness for residential and commercial & industrial (C&I) energy storage systems. This role oversees product engineering activities across batteries, inverters, and complete ESS assemblies, ensuring designs meet performance, safety, regulatory, and manufacturing requirements. The Product Engineer Lead collaborates closely with internal manufacturing teams and global contract manufacturers (CMs) to support pilot builds, product validation, and production ramp.
Key Responsibilities Product & Mechanical Design
Lead the mechanical design of ESS components and enclosures, including battery modules, inverter mechanicals, thermal components, wiring assemblies, and system packaging.
Own creation and maintenance of 3D CAD models, drawings, and engineering documentation.
Drive design-for-manufacturing (DFM) and design-for-assembly (DFA) practices to ensure robust and scalable production.
Perform thermal design and analysis to ensure system performance under various operating conditions.
Product Development & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Serve as a technical lead throughout the product lifecycle—from concept, prototyping, engineering validation, certification, through production launch.
Develop detailed assembly instructions, work instructions, and build documentation for ESS products.
Work closely with electrical, test, firmware, and reliability engineering teams to ensure seamless integration across batteries, BMS, inverters, and system-level components.
Support FMEA activities (DFMEA / PFMEA) to identify and mitigate potential risks early in the design cycle.
Manufacturing & Build Support
Partner with internal manufacturing teams and global contract manufacturers to support prototype builds, pilot builds, and mass production.
Lead technical reviews with CMs for mechanical design, tooling, fixtures, assembly processes, and quality controls.
Drive issue resolution during builds, including mechanical design improvements, supplier feedback, and build process optimization.
Conduct root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions for mechanical or assembly-related issues.
System Integration & Performance
Ensure mechanical interfaces and system-level integration for batteries, inverters, thermal management, and enclosures.
Validate system performance including thermal behavior, shock/vibration, environmental durability, and safety compliance.
Support certification activities related to mechanical design and safety standards (UL9540, UL9540A, UL1741, etc.) as required.
Documentation & Configuration Management
Own product specifications, BOM structures, ECO processes, and manufacturing documentation.
Maintain revision-controlled engineering documentation and ensure alignment across internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Engineering, or related field.
7+ years of experience in product engineering, mechanical design, or new product development, preferably in energy storage, battery systems, or power electronics.
Strong hands-on experience with CAD tools (SolidWorks, Creo, or equivalent).
Proven experience with thermal analysis, DFM/DFA, and design validation testing.
Experience collaborating with global contract manufacturers and supporting production builds.
Familiarity with Li-ion batteries, BMS, inverters, and ESS system-level integration is highly preferred.
Experience writing assembly instructions, work instructions, and manufacturing documentation.
Excellent problem-solving skills, leadership ability, and communication skills.
Physical Requirements This position may require the ability to perform tasks that involve sitting, standing, walking, lifting, computer work and other physical activities. Candidates should be able to meet these physical demands with or without reasonable accommodations.
