Pursuant to the Massabesic Administrators’ Association Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Job Goal:
To develop a program that provides all students an opportunity to participate in an extracurricular athletic activity that fosters physical skills, a sense of worth and competence, an understanding of the pleasures of sport, the principles of fair play, and an appreciation for the benefits of lifelong physical activity.
Qualifications Desired
State certification as an Athletic Director
Degree in a related field or prior job experience
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Performance Responsibilities
Facilitate the administration of athletic programs, facilities, and equipment at Massabesic High School and Massabesic Middle School (in support of the MMS Athletics Liaison).
Communicate effectively and work cooperatively with students, parents, the community, and school personnel.
Assist the Building Principals in the general management of Massabesic High School and Massabesic Middle School when appropriate.
Execute RSU 57 School Board policies.
Collaborate with the district administrative team in coordinating all aspects of the district’s athletic programs.
Organize and administer the overall program of extracurricular athletics for grades 9–12 and support grades 6–8 in collaboration with the MMS Athletics Liaison.
Provide leadership in the selection, assignment, and evaluation of athletic coaches and support staff.
Supervise and collaborate with the Massabesic Middle School liaison.
Foster positive school–community relations by keeping the community informed of, and responsive to, athletic programming, and by working with the Massabesic Athletics Boosters.
Assume responsibility for the organization and scheduling of all athletic events.
Coordinate officials, game management personnel, oversight of athletic training staff in concert with contracted providers, and arrange ambulance and police coverage as required.
Assume general responsibility for the proper supervision of home competitions.
Arrange transportation for athletic contest participants.
Develop and implement appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities.
Facilitate communication among coaches, parents, students, and the community through appropriate technological platforms.
Verify each athlete’s eligibility according to established physical, academic, and insurance requirements.
Prepare, implement, and monitor the athletic program budget.
Maintain accurate inventory records and requisition program supplies and equipment based on a documented replacement schedule.
Supervise athletic program fundraising events and assume responsibility for proper handling of funds.
Arrange all details of visiting teams’ needs as appropriate and in accordance with RSU 57 School Board policy.
Arrange field and gym practice schedules.
Maintain, in collaboration with the School Nurses, physical examination records of all athletes before the beginning of each season.
Verify student insurance coverage through individual policies or the school-offered policy.
Maintain records of the results of all middle school and high school athletic contests, and maintain a record of all award winners, including award type, date earned, and athletic scholarships.
Support and supervise, in collaboration with coaches, annual recognition programs for teams and athletes.
Maintain active engagement with state and regional athletic associations in a manner consistent with RSU 57’s mission.
Perform such related duties as may be reasonably assigned throughout the school year.
