Position Summary Provides technical assistance in the areas of anatomical pathology under the direction of a primary care physician.
Responsibilities
Responsible for complex clinical laboratory procedures that would otherwise be performed by a physician
Supervises the gross room, frozen section area, and morgue facilities
Instructs residents and medical school students under faculty supervision during gross specimen dissection
Monitors specimens arriving in the gross room and assigns dissection to residents based on expertise and workloadli>
Performs routine gross dissection as needed in consultation with the attending physician
Aids in selection of tissue for research and routes it to the appropriate laboratory
Conducts new employee orientation and training in autopsy techniques
Supervises maintenance of autopsy/morgue facilities, equipment, disposable supplies, and develops and implements policies affecting the autopsy/morgue service
Prepares quarterly quality assurance reports, monthly workload summary reports, and autopsy service call schedules
Supervises the sophomore Pathology gross specimen museum, selects new specimens, and ensures proper identification of each specimen
Other duties as assigned
Certification/Skills Current American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Certification as a Pathologist Assistant
Minimum Education
Master's degree in Pathologist Assistant Studies with current certification and no experience
OR Bachelor’s degree with current Pathologist Assistant certification and 2 years of experience
Minimum Experience Experience based on degree
Physical Requirements Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects
