Full‑time Aquatics Director, lead programming, ops across two branches (Newam and East Side) and community in a mission‑focused role.
Job Description The Regional Aquatics Director is responsible for developing, leading, and managing high‑quality aquatic programs across the East Side (40%) and Newman (60%) YMCA locations. This role oversees all aspects of the Aquatics Department, including pool operations, staffing, safety, and risk management. Key responsibilities include hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating staff; delivering and expanding swim lessons, swim teams, and recreational swimming; and ensuring strong fiscal management and program growth that meet community needs.
The combined aquatics operations serves approximately 300 children and 30 staff each week.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree (BA) from a four‑year college or university, or one to two years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Current Lifeguarding certificate required.
Lifeguard Instructor preferred.
Five to eight years of management experience in aquatic related fields. (Y management experience preferable.) At least 5‑7 years of experience as a lifeguard and swim instructor.
Essential Functions
Deliver and oversee aquatic programs that support membership and community needs, including supervising, expanding, and developing new program activities.
Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate staff and volunteers; ensure certifications and records are current.
Monitor daily pool operations and enforce all safety, health, and risk management policies, including equipment checks, emergency drills, and in‑service training.
Maintain program quality through regular observation, feedback, and communication with staff, instructors, and participants.
Provide instruction or lifeguarding coverage as needed.
Communicate promptly and professionally with members, parents, and staff regarding program updates, concerns, or changes.
Inspect and maintain equipment, coordinating with maintenance staff when repairs are needed.
Develop and monitor the annual aquatics budget; review reports and provide necessary information to supervisor.
Establish annual goals and objectives aligned with branch priorities.
Attend required meetings, trainings, and maintain knowledge of YMCA policies and procedures.
Demonstrate and promote the YMCA’s character values in all interactions.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Certifications / Training
Current Lifeguard Certification, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, Oxygen Administration, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens.
Lifeguard Instructor (preferred).
YMCA Swim Instructor Certification (preferred).
YMCA Team Leader certification (preferred).
Certified Pool Operator.
