Program Manager – Environmental Health & Safety Stanford Health Care is hiring a Program Manager to oversee environmental health and safety (EH&S) programs across the hospital, ensuring compliance with local, state, federal laws, regulations, and the Joint Commission standards.

Overview The Program Manager is responsible for planning, administering, and managing safety, health, and fire safety programs, conducting inspections, managing audits, and developing policies to keep the facility compliant.

What You Will Do

Advise management and staff on safety protocols to meet regulatory requirements.

Conduct environmental safety rounds, staff training, fire drills, and life‑safety inspections for construction projects.

Develop and maintain safety manuals, policies, and procedures.

Lead Joint Commission (TJC), Fire/Life Safety compliance audits and recommend corrective actions.

Interpret and enforce TJC safety standards; keep regulatory documentation and records current.

Perform Environment of Care (EOC) audits in ambulatory and hospital facilities.

Conduct environmental assessments and recommend mitigation measures.

Prepare and present audit reports to leadership and various committees.

Analyze audit data and report results to management.

Develop, implement, and update safety and environmental health programs to meet regulations.

Identify required resources and present annual budget for environmental programs.

Manage all aspects of Laser Safety program.

Participate in external task forces, committees, and agencies related to health and safety.

Prepare root‑cause reports and recommend corrective actions for compliance issues.

Negotiate compliance matters with regulatory agencies and track responses to citations.

Implement day‑to‑day operations of EOC, TJC/Fire Safety plans; manage budgets and schedules.

Oversee effective health and safety programs ensuring compliance with accrediting and licensing bodies.

Assist contractors in meeting TJC/EOC regulatory standards in partnership with OCIP Safety Manager.

Provide on‑call support during non‑standard hours as needed.

Education Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field from an accredited college or university. Relevant experience may be considered as an alternative.

Experience Qualifications

Five (5) years of progressively responsible, directly related experience in environmental health and safety.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Communicate effectively in writing and verbally.

Knowledge of accident investigations, federal, state, and local regulations.

Knowledge of functional area computer systems and software.

Knowledge of new technologies and ability to stay updated.

Knowledge of organizational, fiscal, and personnel management principles.

Knowledge of TJC‑EOC standards and auditing.

Licenses and Certifications (preferred)

Driver’s License (any U.S. state).

DOT Hazmat Certification.

OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Certification.

Certified Ergonomics Assessment Specialist (CEAS).

RCRA Hazardous Waste Training.

OSHA Hazwoper.

30‑hour Construction Training.

Compensation Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $66.52 – $88.14 per hour. Final salary will be set based on internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.

Other Information This position may require on‑call availability during non‑standard hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Compensation may be provided if assigned to the Facilities Services & Planning Leader On‑Call Program.
