Job Summary

The General Ledger Accountant maintains accurate financial records, records & reconciles transactions, posts journal entries, and supports month‑end and year‑end closing.

They analyze financial data for discrepancies, assist in reporting, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to support the organization’s financial health.

Proficiency in accounting software and strong understanding of accounting principles are essential.

Responsibilities

Assist ETS in achieving its mission by working collaboratively across staff to transform systems of harm and inequity.

Support organizational initiatives to reimagine interconnectedness and address impacts of white supremacy and settler colonialism.

Maintain general ledger records and reconcile entries for accuracy.

Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.

Post and review journal entries, ensuring proper documentation.

Monitor daily cash positions, post bank transactions, and reconcile bank statements.

Maintain banking relationships and comply with bank agreements.

Execute wire transfers, manage deposits, and identify opportunities to optimize interest income and reduce fees.

Assist CFO in budgeting, developing annual budgets, and creating long‑term financial plans and forecasts.

Conduct financial analysis to support strategic decision‑making and provide cost‑control and revenue‑enhancement insights.

Prepare regulatory and compliance reports, assist with external audits, and generate ad‑hoc financial reports as requested.

Monitor and streamline processes to enhance efficiency, implementing best practices in accounting and financial management.

Support accurate purchase recording, reconcile purchase orders and vendor statements, and analyze vendor pricing.

Review and post accounts receivable invoices, ensuring proper revenue recognition and reconciling the AR ledger with the general ledger.

Ensure compliance with accounting regulations and tax laws and assist in gathering tax documents.

Identify and implement opportunities for process optimization and automation.

Qualifications Education and Experience

Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business.

3+ years of professional accounting or financial management experience, preferably in a non‑profit environment.

Knowledge and Skills

Understanding of racial justice, social equity, and commitment to an equitable environment.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to work with diverse stakeholders.

Excellent organizational, prioritization, and independent work skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially advanced Excel skills; experience with financial accounting and statistical software.

Experience with MIP Fund Accounting™ software and other financial systems.

Analytical, numeracy, and problem‑solving skills; dependable and adaptable.

Attention to detail, confidentiality, and discretion with sensitive information.

Computer literacy and proactive learning of new technologies.

Physical Conditions and Requirements

May be exposed to illicit drug residues, bio‑hazards, or bloodborne pathogens; training provided.

Job requires sitting, handling objects, standing, walking, and occasional lifting up to 30 pounds.

Use of equipment such as computer, photocopier, fax, phone, and occasional vehicle use (valid driver’s license required).
