Base pay range $200,000.00/yr - $300,000.00/yr
Overview A reputable private equity firm is seeking an experienced
Controller
to oversee accounting, reporting, and operational finance functions across its
Private Credit platform . This role will play a critical part in managing end-to-end fund financials, ensuring accurate reporting, maintaining strong controls, and supporting the continued growth of the firm’s credit strategies. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in private credit fund structures, investment accounting, and U.S. GAAP as applied to investment companies.
Key Responsibilities
Lead all accounting, reporting, and financial close processes for Private Credit funds, SMAs, and related entities.
Oversee NAV calculations, capital activity, expense allocations, and valuation processes.
Prepare and review quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP and industry standards.
Manage coordination with third-party administrators, auditors, and tax advisors to ensure accurate and timely deliverables.
Investment Accounting
Oversee accounting for private credit investments including first-lien, unitranche, subordinated debt, preferred equity, and structured credit instruments.
Ensure accurate application of fair value methodologies and adherence to ASC 820.
Review deal-level activity including funding, paydowns, PIK accruals, OID amortization, and portfolio company financial performance.
Operations & Controls
Strengthen accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls across the credit platform.
Assist with liquidity planning, cash management, and credit facility compliance.
Oversee regulatory filings, partner reporting, and compliance support as needed.
Cross-Functional Leadership
Partner with investment, operations, investor relations, and legal teams to support fund launches, new products, and strategic initiatives.
Provide insights to senior leadership regarding fund performance, trends, and accounting impacts.
Mentor and develop junior team members.
Qualifications
8+ years
of relevant experience in private credit fund accounting, including time at an investment manager, fund administrator, or Big 4/large public accounting firm.
Strong technical knowledge of
U.S. GAAP , investment company accounting (ASC 946), and fair value standards (ASC 820).
Experience with
closed‑end private credit fund structures , including drawdown funds and levered vehicles.
Proven ability to manage audits, valuations, and complex fund operations.
CPA strongly preferred.
Excellent communication, analytical, and project‑management skills.
Prior experience working in or with a private credit manager or alternative asset manager required.
