Sterile Processing Tech II Per Diem – UCSF Health Incumbent decontaminates, operationally inspects, assembles, sterilizes, and distributes surgical instrumentation, implants, supplies, and equipment throughout the medical center. Incumbent maintains documentation related to these duties and assists in the training of other Sterile Processing Technicians. Incumbent pulls needed supplies and instruments for next day cases or emergent cases by utilizing OR preference cards picklists. Performs all tasks necessary to prepare and maintain accurate surgical Case Carts. Incumbent operates and maintains sterilization equipment, decontamination equipment, and computer systems related to these duties. This position requires the flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.

Salary range: $41.25 - $41.25 hourly. Final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Required Qualifications

High School graduate, G.E.D. or equivalent

Possess and maintain current certification as a Sterile Processing Technician through an accredited organization (CRCST, IAHCSMM, or CBSPD)

A minimum of one (1) year of previous Sterile Processing Technician experience

Knowledge of all areas in SPD including Decontamination, Inspection, Assembly & Packaging, Sterilization of Packaged Medical Devices, QC & Sterilization record keeping, Distribution of Sterile Products, Preparation, Build and QA of Case carts

Detailed knowledge and ability to operate machinery including sterilizers, washers, and ultrasonic cleaners

The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations

Good communication and customer service skills

Basic knowledge of computer systems including Windows OS and keyboard & mouse operations

Demonstrated ability to competently perform multiple complex tasks

Knowledge of medical terminology

Knowledge of standard precautions for safety and prevention of cross contamination

The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

The ability to understand, speak, and write English to communicate with nursing, technical, and medical staff

The ability to safely move heavy trays and equipment, lifting up to 50 pounds, and stand for prolonged periods
