What To Expect The Failure Analysis Team’s mission is to determine root cause and contributing factors to improve the experience of Tesla’s Energy Products by reducing field issues, in collaboration with a large cross-section of other engineering teams. Engineers and Technicians on the team are responsible for a wide variety of Energy Product systems like Powerwall, Megapack and Supercharger. This is an individual contributor role with great internal visibility that requires extensive, hands‑on work focused on failure analysis and root cause activities. We are seeking a multi‑faceted individual who will be responsible for all aspects of identifying, analyzing, root‑causing, implementing countermeasures, and reporting on issues affecting systems including electromechanical, low voltage, and battery systems among others. To be effective in this role, the engineer will need to be intimately familiar with the detailed behavior of these electro‑mechanical components and the tools and equipment used in their design and manufacture. You will work with other Engineering teams to root‑cause and implement countermeasures of field issues to improve quality, reliability, and durability of the products. What You'll Do
Drive issue resolution from root cause analysis to countermeasure implementation on electromechanical and thermal systems hardware failures from Tesla’s Energy Products
Investigate system assemblies, modules, and components to identify root cause of failure in Tesla’s Energy products
Design and conduct fault replication testing and experiments on electromechanical components such as motors, actuators, pumps, etc.
Collaborate with appropriate engineers, suppliers, and contract manufacturers to drive resolution to the identified failure causes
Provide input to design and manufacturing teams to improve design and production yield
Support design reviews and DFMEAs based on prior failure experience
Candidate should be detail oriented and possess excellent communication skills
What You'll Bring
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering or equivalent, or equivalent experience
Strong demonstrable experience in electromechanical hardware applications for energy storage/automotive applications
Mechanical Design experience of thermal systems is a strong plus
Strong demonstrable hands‑on experience in lab settings, including designing, assembling, and executing tests for system‑level hardware issues
Experience with fabrication, assembly, and basic instrumentation is desirable
Extremely proficient at interpreting system diagrams and wiring schematics
Familiarity with pressure/leak testing, CAN communication software (PCAN Explorer/CANape), and accelerated life testing
Familiarity with or willingness to learn the different failure analysis techniques including 2D and 3D X‑Ray, Cross Sectioning, FTIR, DSC, SEM, and FLIR Thermography
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required

Expected Compensation
$104,000 - $156,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits. Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
