Geotechnical Engineer (Nashville)

Location:

Nashville, TN

Base pay range:

$75,000.00/yr - $95,000.00/yr

Duties / Responsibilities

Provide geotechnical engineering and guidance for due diligence, investigation, impact assessment, improvement, and construction of infrastructure projects in the public and private sector.

Assist with research, design, analysis, concept development, planning, and construction of roads, buildings, tunnels, dams, canals, levees, bridges, airports, water supply systems, underground storage, and sewage treatment.

Conduct subsurface investigations, soil foundation engineering, settlement analysis, soil erosion, lateral earth pressures, geological hazards, underground water, and slope stability for commercial, industrial, building, infrastructure, and transportation projects.

Lead field investigations, engineering analysis, calculations, and recommendations; develop plans and specifications; observe and inspect; and prepare review of related reports.

Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance on design and construction issues involving rock and soil mechanics; investigate subsurface and geological conditions to design foundations, earth structures and pavement sub‑grades.

Write technical reports summarizing research findings and conclusions; generate accurate documentation using sketches, calculations, electronic systems, spreadsheets and software.

Develop work plans and coordinate field/site work and laboratory testing.

Provide support during construction through submittal reviews, responses to requests for information, and contract document clarifications.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Structural Engineering.

Professional Engineer (PE) or EIT preferred.

5+ years of geotechnical engineering experience.

Ability to prepare complete, concise, and organized engineering calculations and reports.

Proficiency in geotechnical software including gINT, Slope/W, Seep/W, APILE, LPILE, GRLWeap, Settle3D (or other settlement software).

Ability to travel to project sites and access all points of a construction site in diverse climates and environmental conditions.

Valid driver’s license and insurable.

Good verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Requirements

Physically mobile on construction sites and field assignments.

Ability to carry required instruments and equipment.

Ability to lift 50 pounds.

Performance of essential job functions consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other standards, including meeting productivity standards.

Exposure to variable climate and environmental conditions including extreme cold and heat.
