Overview
Physical Therapist 1 is professional work in administering physical therapy treatments in a rehabilitation department. The employee develops therapy treatment plans, evaluates patient progress, and prepares analytical progress notes. Work is performed in accordance with professional principles and techniques, with professional judgment in development and modification of treatment plans and evaluation of patient progress. Responsibilities
Evaluates and treats each patient according to diagnosis, age, functional status, and medical history. Establishes and implements an effective physical therapy treatment plan of care and modifies it as patient status changes. Documents patient evaluation, daily progress notes, patient care plans, and weekly progress notes in the medical chart within the established time frame. Completes daily charge vouchers for assigned patients by the end of each work day. Participates as an active rehabilitation team member, attending rounds and family conferences, and reports professionally as part of the team. Measures patients, orders and checks out wheelchairs and other equipment in a timely and cost-conscious manner; acknowledges future growth and/or physical changes. Prepares and instructs patients in written home physical therapy programs. Develops age-specific patient education materials and/or classes for patients and staff as required. Demonstrates competence in the safe and effective use of therapeutic equipment. Maintains Management by Objectives with the unit Asst. Chief; reviews progress yearly and quarterly. Attends and participates in unit, department and hospital in-services to ensure knowledge of safety policies and procedures. Oversees and coordinates the learning experience of physical therapy students during internships and practicums. Performs thorough evaluation procedures with age-specific considerations and administers physical therapy treatments using relevant modalities. Participates in goal-directed therapeutic recreation activities as appropriate. Assists in the development and implementation of the unit's Quality Improvement program with guidance from leadership. Identifies ways to improve department services and understands growth/development principles relevant to patients. Communicates with patients and families about proper techniques and provides psychosocial support as needed. Participates in clinical research as it relates to patient care. Follows unit-specific policies and procedures and uses required equipment. Demonstrates service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Expertise). Performs other related duties as assigned and may undertake advanced duties via Rehab Clinical Ladder with pre-approval. Experience
Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience. Education
Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy and completion of a required internship program are required. Skills
Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form. Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment. Knowledge and skill in use of job-appropriate technology and software applications. Must meet and maintain all unit-specific and organizational skills/competencies and certifications/licensures as required. Credentials
Valid Florida license as a Physical Therapist required. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.
