Manager, Core Tax Services – Corporate/ASC 740
BDO USA is seeking a Manager in Core Tax Services (ASC 740) who will advise clients on tax implications, reduce tax burdens, and serve as the primary contact for complex corporate tax and ASC 740 issues.
Job Duties
Tax Compliance
Ensure clients comply with all authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens.
Conduct top‑level review of tax return review (T/R) and resolve issues, involving specialists when appropriate.
Communicate findings from tax accrual review with Assurance clients.
Plan and review tax processes, including budgeting, staffing, and monitoring engagement time.
Manage billing, out‑of‑scope activity, and A/R collection.
Maintain client relationships and provide timely advice.
Research
Identify necessary research, frame issues clearly, and report analysis.
Provide research methodology and train staff on ASC 740 research skills.
Involve firm specialists as needed.
ASC 740 (FAS 109 / FIN 48) Tax Accruals
Apply firm policies and BDO Tax Quality Manual (TQM) concerning ASC 740.
Explain and discuss income tax provision components and uncertain tax positions.
Coordinate with Assurance team on timing of accrual reviews.
Review tax provisions and workpapers, and manage Specialized Tax Services (STS) when required.
Tax Consulting
Develop and recommend efficient methods to reduce client taxes.
Consider CTS and STS consulting specialties.
Implement work plans including STS assistance, serve as technical resource, and ensure compliance with written advice (WTA).
Tax Specialization
Develop expertise in areas such as corporate, state/local, international, transfer pricing, etc.
Conduct internal CPE training and mentor teams on ASC 740.
Strategy Development
Propose new or improved ideas to benefit clients and the firm.
Lead marketing campaigns if applicable and present complex strategies to clients.
Collaborate with National Tax and STS groups.
Other Duties
Act on additional responsibilities as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise Associates and Senior Associates across all projects.
Review work, provide comments, train on software tools, and act as career advisor.
Schedule and manage workloads, and give performance feedback.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Taxation (required).
Master’s degree in Accounting or Taxation (preferred).
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Five or more years of experience.
Experience managing ASC 740 computations for private and public clients.
Supervisory experience.
Multinational client experience (preferred).
CPA, Attorney (U.S. jurisdiction), or IRS Enrolled Agent (EA) (required).
Advanced MS Office and tax research database skills; proficiency with GoFileRoom, GoSystemRS, Caseware, and other tax compliance software (required). Preferential for experience with BNA Depreciation Software.
Strong communication, analytical, research, critical thinking, delegation, teamwork, client relationship, and executive presence skills.
Ability to develop and manage a team of tax professionals and produce written tax advice.
