About The Opportunity
The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) is one of the fastest-growing professional sports leagues in the U.S., powered by 16 clubs and a deep roster of the world’s best players. Built on record‑shattering fan, media, and commercial growth, the league is now in its 13th season and continues to accelerate, with viewership, attendance, social media fandom, team valuations, and top sponsors all expanding. The Role
The Vice President, Game Operations reports directly to the Chief Legal Officer and is responsible for defining and executing the comprehensive strategic vision for match day operations, security, competition integrity, and large‑scale event management across the entire NWSL ecosystem. This executive leadership role is the league’s most senior operational position, ensuring all on‑field competition is executed with world‑class professionalism and compliance. What You Will Own & Drive
Strategic & Policy Leadership: lead the Operations team into a next phase of growth, establishing best‑in‑class game day experience and ensuring competition integrity. Gameday Operations & Security: establish and enforce world‑class operational standards for all NWSL matches, covering stadium operations, safety protocols, field conditions, and the overall player and fan experience. Executive Club Liaison: serve as the primary executive contact for club presidents, general managers, and ownership on critical operational and compliance matters. Major Event Execution: oversee planning and execution of all major league events, including the NWSL Championship, Challenge Cup, Combine, and associated tournaments. Officiating: oversee operational and administrative support for league officiating; partner with the Professional Referee Organization to drive improvements. Scheduling: lead strategic planning and tactical scheduling of all game‑day events, ensuring optimal resource allocation and coordination across departments. Operations Manual: ensure compliance to, and update, the Operations Manual, including policies on player, team, and league disciplinary issues. Technology: manage broadcast and in‑game technology integration, positioning the league as a partner ahead of media rights negotiations. Departmental Leadership: manage, mentor, and lead the Operations staff, fostering accountability and operational excellence. Budget & Resource Management: develop, manage, and execute the annual departmental budget, optimizing resources for staffing, equipment, and technology. What You Will Bring
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Sports Management, Business, or a related field preferred. 10‑15 years of progressive leadership experience in professional sports administration, competition management, or large‑scale event operations. Proven ability to lead, mentor, and manage a high‑performing team while driving strategic initiatives. Exceptional executive presence, strategic planning, complex project management, and strong verbal/written communication skills. Deep knowledge of U.S. Soccer competition structure, operations, and field standards. Able and willing to travel frequently (up to 50%) and work non‑traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays during the competitive season. Preferred Qualifications
Executive Presence: possess a credible executive image that represents the NWSL brand to internal stakeholders and partners. Integrity: guided by the highest moral and ethical principles, demonstrating accountability for all decisions affecting competition. Cross‑Functional Acumen: proven experience partnering with departments such as Broadcast, Legal, and Commercial to align operational decisions with league business objectives. Our Investment in You
