LER TechForce is seeking a Lead Systems Engineer – Diagnostics
to work onsite at our client in
Bowling Green, KY
(this is a direct hire position).
What you will be doing:
Lead diagnostic systems architecture and Interface Control Documents for ECUs and embedded modules.
Define requirements for DTC strategy, service implementation, OBD-II/J1979 behaviors, and failure mode logic.
Host technical discussions and design reviews; drive FMEAs and ensure requirements-to-test traceability.
Plan and execute complex diagnostic deliverables from concept through validation and release.
Calibrate diagnostic thresholds and ensure successful feature integration.
Collaborate with embedded software, validation, and hardware teams.
Build and maintain diagnostic test plans, scripts, and acceptance criteria.
Mentor systems engineers and manage change control.
Lead root-cause analysis of field, service, manufacturing, and design issues.
What you'll need to be successful:
B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, Software, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering or related field.
7+ years in embedded control systems with proven experience in diagnostics and systems engineering.
Proficiency with CAN, UDS, J1979/J1939, and diagnostic data design.
Strong systems experience including requirements, ICDs, FMEAs, traceability, and test coverage.
Effective cross-functional leadership and communication skills.
Preferred:
Master's degree in engineering or related field.
Hands‑on experience with engine tuning, calibration tools, or dyno/vehicle testing.
Familiarity with automotive communication protocols.
Experience with diagnostic architecture and system modeling.
Knowledge of OBD compliance (EPA/CARB), ISO, UL, and other regulatory standards.
Understanding of Internal Combustion Engine fundamentals and Engine Management Systems.
