We welcome applications for possible part‑time teaching positions throughout the year. The instructor will provide teaching and learning support in core Physical Education classes that may include but are not limited to weight training, basketball, dance, yoga, soccer, golf, cardio kickboxing, karate, ultimate frisbee, and Physical Education lecture classes.
Qualifications Education, Training, and Experience:
Master’s degree or 27 graduate quarter hours in physical education or related discipline.
Applicants who have not achieved this level of education may be considered if they have considerable documented experience and competency teaching physical education or fitness classes, or have other significant professional proficiency in a sports‑related area.
Must obtain CPR and First Aid Certification prior to teaching assignment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The ability to communicate effectively as a teacher and to operate as an effective member of a team.
Must be able to work respectfully with individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
Recent college teaching experience as a physical education instructor or fitness instructor or recent professional experience related to the position is preferred.
Responsibilities
Requires the ability to work with staff and students.
Work is performed in an office or classroom setting with minimal exposure to safety or health hazards.
Promote excellence in instruction through innovative instructional methods in the Health and Human Performance Program.
Identify and meet the needs for student learning. Promote student learning and skills attainment. Work within the guiding principles of outcomes based learning.
Deliver teaching to students, assess student learning. Grade papers on time, turn in grades on time.
Monitor students for effective and safe execution of exercise movements. Ensure that a safe, respectable classroom environment is achieved.
Work within the philosophy and mission of the college as an educator.
May occasionally advise Health and Human Performance students and facilitate their learning.
Perform assigned teaching and advising roles, to include promoting the program and student retention.
Actively engage in communication and collaboration within the Health and Human Performance Department.
Work on a planned schedule of professional development to maintain current knowledge and practice.
Assist in departmental learning activities as assigned.
Salary and Compensation Courses are paid on a per‑credit basis. New Part‑time Faculty begin at Step 1 of the pay scale, with steps being “rolled” once per term, if eligible.
Table 1 illustrates the cost per credit for each step on the pay scale. Instructors new to the College typically start at the rate listed in column 1.
Table 3 illustrates the compensation per hour for meetings, training, advising, curriculum development, or other related work.
Additional Notes
As a condition of employment, all new employees are required to be compensated via direct deposit.
Offers of employment are contingent on the applicant having Oregon residency at the time work commences.
Employment is subject to completion of a post‑offer criminal background check.
