HARTZ Search invites you to explore an exciting opportunity for the Corporate Compliance Officer (CCO) with our client, Capital Digestive Care, in Silver Spring, MD. This role is hybrid with travel within the Mid-Atlantic region. The CCO will serve as the head of compliance, privacy, and internal auditing. The position is responsible for developing, implementing, managing, and directing the company’s compliance, privacy, and internal audit programs. The CCO reports administratively to the CEO and works closely with senior management by monitoring and reporting the results of the Company's compliance and ethics efforts, as well as guiding matters related to reporting and compliance.
The ideal candidate is a transformational leader with deep expertise in Compliance, possessing a proven track record in compliance auditing and monitoring, investigations, enforcement, and the development of comprehensive audit policies, programs, and plans across areas such as HIPAA, Medicare, and OSHA. This individual demonstrates strong analytical abilities, with the capacity to resolve complex logical and interpersonal issues, and can interpret and clearly communicate policies, procedures, regulations, and reports to both staff and governmental agencies.
Capital Digestive Care is the largest privately owned gastroenterology practice group in the mid-Atlantic region, with 160+ providers treating 200,000+ patients annually at over 20 office locations across the Washington, DC, metro and Tidewater, VA regions. They have a CAP-accredited lab that performs over 500,000 tests annually and is the only specialty physician-owned in-house lab offering at-home test kits and convenient pickup. In addition, Capital Digestive Care is the region’s largest GI-focused clinical research program, offering GI-specific clinical trials for more than 30 years. With 15+ active clinical trials at any given time and physician scientists featured in the New England Journal of Medicine, the team has a legacy of providing innovative new therapies for GI diseases. JOB DESCRIPTION:
Supports the Compliance Committee and regularly reports to the Board of Directors.
Annually prepares the Compliance Work Plan, implements and takes responsibility for all reporting requirements contained within the plan. Review the Compliance Work Plan with the Compliance Committee to address the priority compliance risk exposures for the Company.
Develops, initiates, maintains, and revises policies and procedures for the general operation of the compliance program and its related activities to prevent illegal, unethical, or improper conduct
Manages the day-to‑day of a process‑oriented, company‑wide compliance program that is guided by applicable law and industry standards, policies, procedures, and HIPAA to ensure conformity with applicable laws and regulations.
Identifies potential areas of compliance vulnerability, develops and implements corrective action plans for the resolution of problematic issues, and provides general guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar situations. Collaborates with other departments to direct compliance issues to appropriate existing channels for investigation and resolution.
Provides reports on a regular basis and, as directed or requested, keeps senior management informed of the operation and progress of compliance efforts. Ensures proper reporting of violations or potential violations to governmental agencies as appropriate or required. Maintains a reporting system that provides timely and relevant information on all aspects of the compliance program.
Works with the human resources department to develop an effective compliance training program, including appropriate introductory training for new employees and ongoing training for all employees and managers. Facilitates specialized training to ensure familiarity with relevant laws, regulations, standards, policies, procedures, and code of conduct.
Promotes employee education regarding the commitment to compliance with all laws, regulations, and guidelines applicable to the business of the Company. Establishes and maintains systems for effectively documenting such educational activity.
Oversees the confidential disclosure and hotline programs that effectively encourage managers, employees, and others to report suspected improprieties without fear of retaliation. Maintains confidentiality regarding complaints to the maximum extent possible and implements and maintains systems that ensure appropriate responses to compliance complaints, disclosures, and reported problems in a timely fashion.
Oversees internal investigations and actions on matters related to compliance, including the flexibility to design and coordinate internal investigations in response to compliance reports, audit results, reports of problems, or suspected violations and any resulting corrective actions. Ensures audits/investigations are promptly completed, corrective action is promptly taken, and disciplinary action is taken as appropriate.
Assists and/or coordinates system‑wide prevention and remedial plans and serves as a resource in the development and implementation of departmental plans that facilitate compliance with quality standards following audits or investigations, and ensures a reduction in identified problem areas and improved quality.
Establish and maintain record‑keeping, tracking, and documentation retention systems related to the Compliance Process that allow for appropriate analysis and reports.
ROLE DETAILS:
The CCO will serve as an integral member of the executive leadership team.
The CCO will report to the CEO and have a dotted line to the Board of Directors.
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required.
Master’s degree preferred.
Certifications In Healthcare Compliance or Compliance Preferred:
CPC – Certified Professional Coder
CHC – Certified Healthcare Compliance
CPA – Certified Public Accountant
CIA – Chief Internal Auditor
CPCO – Certified Professional Compliance Officer
CPMA – Certified Professional Medical Auditor
CCEP - Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional
Experience:
7+ years of executive‑level corporate compliance program experience in a medium to large‑sized physician practice group.
Experience working with an MSO preferred.
Experience with healthcare ancillary services, including laboratory compliance.
Proven track record in the areas of compliance auditing and monitoring, investigation, enforcement, and formulation of comprehensive audit policies, programs, and plans (HIPAA, Medicare, OSHA, etc.).
