Position Summary The

Student Conduct Coordinator

plays a vital role in upholding community standards and promoting student accountability at San Diego State University. Working within the Center for Student Rights and Responsibilities, this position investigates and adjudicates alleged violations of university policy, ensuring a fair, educational, and student-centered process.

Key Responsibilities

Case Investigation and Adjudication: Review and investigate reports of academic and non-academic misconduct in line with CSU Executive Orders and Title 5.

Hearing and Sanctioning: Conduct hearings, determine outcomes, and apply sanctions such as probation, suspension, or expulsion.

Educational Interventions: Develop and assign educational sanctions that promote accountability and learning.

Case Documentation: Maintain accurate records and reports of student conduct proceedings.

Student Support and Referral: Provide guidance and connect students to campus and community resources.

Training and Outreach: Deliver programs and workshops on student rights, responsibilities, and conduct processes.

Faculty Engagement: Support faculty in addressing academic integrity issues and reporting violations.

Collaboration and Liaison Work: Serve as liaison to CSU Judicial Affairs Officers and manage Maxient database functions.

Campus and Community Partnerships: Strengthen relationships with key campus partners and community resources.

Professional Development: Engage in training and professional organizations to enhance conduct administration expertise.

Position Information

This is a full-time (1.0 time‑base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position.

This position is designated as exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

This position is eligible for telecommuting up to 1 day per week with onsite work in San Diego.

Department Summary The Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs and Campus Diversity coordinates and develops student services, building the inclusive excellence of SDSU’s staff and faculty. Departments include the Center for Student Rights and Responsibilities, which handles all aspects of student discipline and operates under CSU Executive Orders.

Education and Experience Equivalent to graduation from a four‑year college or university in a related field; supplemented by upper‑division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing and conflict resolution. Typically requires three years of progressively responsible professional student services experience. A master’s degree in counseling, clinical psychology, social work, or a related field may substitute for one year of experience. A doctorate with appropriate clinical training may substitute for the three years of experience.

Key Qualifications

Experience working with a highly diverse student population.

Thorough knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations related to student conduct, including FERPA.

Knowledge of university organizational structures, resources, and student conduct practices and procedures.

Demonstrated counseling‑related skills and ability to advise students individually and in groups.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to collect, analyze, and evaluate data, and make sound, logical decisions.

Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with professionalism.

Strong initiative, independence, and resourcefulness in planning and implementing program improvements.

Experience managing or interpreting student conduct data in Maxient is preferred.

Knowledge of legal and ethical student conduct practices is preferred.
