The Child Center of NY
The Child Center Residential Treatment Facility (RTF)
is a coeducational program in a warm, supportive environment that serves young people ages 12-18 who have had multiple psychiatric hospital placements or have been involved with the juvenile justice system. It is the only downstate RTF in the state that is a dual NYS Office of Mental Health/Office of Children and Family Services facility. We never consider it too late to give young people the help they need, and we are pleased to partner with these two agencies to ensure the young people in our care have the skills and support they need to achieve long-term success.
Reflecting The Child Center’s dedication to comprehensive care, the RTF is staffed by clinical coordinators, psychiatric providers, a pediatrician, and 24-hour nursing staff, 24-hour youth advocates. Support is individualized and tailored to the needs of the young people.
Summary The registered nurse provides coordinated medical and health services under the supervision of the nurse manager and director of medical at the RTF.
In this role you will:
Assess medical complaints and provide First Aid to residents as necessary
Prepare medication and distribute medications as scheduled and ordered
Perform count of medication, notify providers if prescriptions need refills and order medication from pharmacy
Restocking medication that was delivered from pharmacy, while ensuring that accurate prescriptions are in medication bins
Pack medication for when residents go on home visits
Perform inventory count as needed and notify supervisor when supplies are running low
Makes medical appointments and contacts guardians to notify and encourage them to attend appointments, as well as follow-up with guardians with any information after the appointment
Preparing documentation for appointments or hospital visits
Liaison with the pediatric or other medical consultants (or the emergency medical services if that is indicated)
Liaison with site supervisor, unit staff, and clinicians as needed
Attends treatment planning meetings and meet & greets for residents
Admission assessments; liaison with other facilities to obtain medical records
Maintains records according to agency policy (vaccine refrigerator temperature log, controlled substances count, nursing notes and assessments, etc.)
Provides education and run health education groups for residents
Draw lab work as ordered, obtain EKGs/Vital Signs/Height/Weight, places PPDs as ordered
Scan paperwork into electronic charts
Manage physical holds and liaison with physician during ESI (Emergency Safety Intervention - manual restraint)
Ensure proper documentation of assessments, medication administration, ESI, etc. in electronic charts
Discharge prep for residents (i.e. preparing medical records, liaison with medical services, ensuring 30-day supply of medication from pharmacy, etc.)
Maintaining accurate inventory of supplies and medication, including expiration dates

Minimum Qualifications
Registered Nurse, current NYS RN license
One year of nursing experience
Strong clinical skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a psychiatric setting
Experience working with pediatric population
Schedule
week one: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday
Weekend and Holiday availability is required
