HDR is an employee‑owned company that values inclusion and innovation. We are looking for a Sr. Mechanical Engineer to join our Building Engineering Services Business Group in Chicago, IL. The team delivers integrated facility and infrastructure design across diverse markets, with a strong focus on sustainable design and energy efficiency. Responsibilities
Establish client relations and participate in marketing, design, and production meetings regarding mechanical systems. Assume mechanical lead on a variety of projects. Participate in reviews with governing agencies to ensure code compliance. Conduct schematic, design‑development, and contract‑document work sessions in collaboration with the Project Manager, Project Architect, and other disciplines. Coordinate workload throughout project development to complete documents on schedule. Track financial aspects of projects and adjust work effort with the team to stay within agreed‑upon parameters. Collaborate with the Project Manager, Regional Controller, and Regional Director for project reviews with corporate management. Perform other duties as required. Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Architectural Engineering with a Mechanical emphasis or in Mechanical Engineering. Experience with Healthcare, Science and Technology, and/or Civic facilities. Preference for individuals with Data Center design experience. Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. Minimum of 10 years of mechanical system design experience for commercial or institutional buildings. Professional engineering license (PE or P.Eng) recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, MS Project, and AutoCAD. Demonstrated leadership skills, previous team coordination, and project management experience. Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.
