Grid Integration Specialist

Your Opportunity The Grid Integration Specialist will act as a subject‑matter expert within the Policy & Regulatory team and support the MTC teams’ energy clients with market research, regulatory knowledge, and North American interconnection requirements. The role focuses on Independent Power Producers, large load customers, utilities, public utility commissions, FERC, and industrial markets.
Key Responsibilities
Work with the Practice Leader and MTC team to implement strategic direction across markets.
Continuously refine and deliver the Policy & Regulatory portfolio in line with evolving policy and regulatory landscapes.
Support proposal development and pursue client opportunities requiring premium‑rate advisory services.
Ensure consistency of the team’s high‑value client experience from bid to closeout.
Integrate Policy & Regulatory value propositions into other MTC pillars.
Provide grid interconnection advisory services, including large generator and load interconnection procedures across U.S. and Canadian utilities.
Advise on regulatory decisions, technology permissibility, and market rule implications for energy clients.
Conduct benchmarking and research‑based advisory services through public regulator databases.
Support planning and execution of the Policy & Regulatory expansion strategy across energy, water, and industrial sectors.
Assist in developing business‑development strategy and outreach activities to drive line growth.
Stay informed of industry policy, regulatory developments, trends, and competitor activity to align service offerings with market needs.
Collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders to identify collaboration opportunities.
Develop business strategy, including growth target KPIs, with the Sector Leader.
Support new market segments, including utility interconnection project management and policy advising for energy, water, and industrial sectors.
Contribute to policy & regulatory team's growth by fostering skills development and coaching peers.
Lead components of project execution, ensuring reporting and adherence to Stantec’s project delivery protocols.
Act as account manager or team member for key accounts, leading growth plans and pull‑through strategies.
Work with marketing to support campaigns for Policy & Regulatory and MTC business lines.
Serve as an ambassador at industry conferences, speaking engagements, and other external events.
Capabilities & Credentials
Direct experience facilitating and driving utility interconnection application projects.
Proficiency in policy and regulatory analysis across energy and industrial sectors.
Detailed understanding of the electrical utility industry and energy‑intensive organizational operations.
Experience managing regulatory‑grade documents for C‑Suite, investors, and regulatory stakeholders.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, building trust and authenticity.
Collaborative, team‑oriented, able to build consensus within a global organization.
Ability to manage competing priorities in a high‑paced consultancy while maintaining exceptional value.
Education & Experience
Minimum of 7 years of energy industry experience leading projects with utilities, regulatory agencies, or developers.
Relevant degree in Business, Economics, or Engineering.
History of leading interconnection applications through utility and regulatory processing.
Familiarity with Large Generating Interconnection Procedures (LGIP) in the U.S. and/or Canadian customer interconnection requirements.
Ability to translate advanced engineering into regulatory‑grade or business development documentation.
Advanced industry certifications in project management, policy development, or economics (asset).
Proven track record of delivering projects on time, within budget, and with high client satisfaction.
Travel Travel may be required 10–15% of the time to support project execution or attend industry conferences, working groups, or other events.
Compensation and Benefits Locations in CO, HI, IL, MD & Various CA, NJ Areas - Min Salary $117,800.00 - Max Salary $176,800.00.
Pay Transparency:
In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Actual compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. Certain roles may be bonus eligible.
