The Technology team at SFM develops and supports the infrastructure, applications, and analytics that power all of the firm’s business activities, including portfolio management, risk management, trading, research, treasury, operations, finance, human resources, legal, compliance, and tax. Our team consists of individuals with a range of expertise and backgrounds, ranging from quants and financial engineers to software engineers, cloud engineers, systems engineers, data engineers, and cybersecurity experts. Job Overview

We are seeking a highly strategic and execution-focused Chief of Staff to support our Chief Technology Officer (CTO). This role is designed for an individual who can operate at the intersection of technology, business strategy, and organizational leadership—ensuring that the CTO’s vision translates into disciplined execution across teams and initiatives. The Chief of Staff will serve as a key thought partner to the CTO, driving operational efficiency, cross-departmental alignment, and strategic technology initiatives that underpin the firm’s investing, trading, risk management, operations, and data platforms. Major Responsibilities

Strategic Planning and Execution

Partner with the CTO to define and execute the technology roadmap in alignment with the firm’s investment and operational strategies. Manage and track progress on key strategic initiatives, ensuring timely delivery of objectives. Lead quarterly and annual planning processes across technology teams, coordinating input from engineering, infrastructure, and quant research. Synthesize complex technical discussions into concise, actionable insights for the executive committee.

Operational Leadership

Oversee the CTO office’s operating rhythm, including management meetings, leadership updates, and communications to the broader organization. Identify and remove bottlenecks in technology project execution; drive accountability across teams. Coordinate budget planning, headcount allocation, and vendor relationships in collaboration with Finance and HR.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Serve as the connective tissue between technology, investment, operations, and compliance functions. Support coordination between Technology leads and business leaders to ensure that technology investments directly enable business outcomes. Act as a proxy for the CTO in key meetings and decisions when needed.

People and Culture

Help develop and maintain a strong engineering culture centered on collaboration, performance, and innovation. Drive internal communications, offsites, and engagement initiatives for technology teams. Support hiring priorities and onboarding for senior technical leaders.

What We Value

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, or a related field. 8–12+ years of experience in a fast-paced technology, finance, or consulting environment—ideally with exposure to trading systems, quantitative research, or large-scale infrastructure. Proven track record in program or product management, strategy, or operations roles within a technical organization. Exceptional communication and executive presentation skills; able to translate between technical and business stakeholders. Strong analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. High integrity, discretion, and comfort operating in a confidential and high-stakes environment. We anticipate the base salary of this role to be between $200k - $250k. In addition to a base salary, the successful candidate will also be eligible to receive a discretionary year-end bonus. In all respects, candidates need to reflect the following SFM core values:
