Primary Purpose Of Position Extension EFNEP Educator is an employee of NC Cooperative Extension, NC State University. Under the supervision of the County Extension Director with guided assistance from the District EFNEP Extension Associate, the EFNEP Educator delivers nutrition and related subject matter to enrolled participants.

Primary Purpose Of Organizational Unit North Carolina Cooperative Extension (NCCE) gives residents easy access to the resources and expertise of NC State University and North Carolina A & T State University. Through educational programs, publications and events, Cooperative Extension delivers unbiased, research‑based information to North Carolina citizens. EFNEP helps limited‑resource youth and families learn to eat healthier meals and snacks, make better use of food dollars and reduce the risk of foodborne illnesses. In collaboration with many organizations through the “Eat Smart, Move More” initiative, NC EFNEP aims to reduce obesity by teaching practical skills that change behaviors.

Duties and Responsibilities

Recruit and enroll adults, making regular teaching visits to enrollees at home or in group settings.

Teach basic principles of nutrition and food preparation skills.

Submit required program records as requested.

Market the program within the assigned area.

Recruit volunteers from the community and involve them in leadership roles.

Collaborate with local Cooperative Extension staff and agencies.

Assist with securing program resources.

Other Work/Responsibilities

Travel within the county, district, and state using a personal vehicle. A personal vehicle is required.

Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of the role of NCCE as an educational agency.

Recruit limited‑resource families with young children who meet federal eligibility guidelines.

Instruct eligible families using approved curricula and teaching methods.

Conduct food demonstrations for adult populations.

Facilitate the collection of required data and submit reports to RNEA, EFNEP State office, and CED.

Maintain confidentiality of program information.

Coordinate with collaborating agencies to extend outreach to eligible families.

Establish and maintain partnerships with agencies and organizations serving EFNEP audiences.

Participate in lifelong learning and professional development through trainings and other opportunities as designated by leadership.

Attend required EFNEP meetings and trainings within and outside the county; overnight travel may be required.

Enhance program visibility by communicating impacts to local stakeholders and potential participants.

Promote educational opportunities beyond EFNEP within Cooperative Extension and partnering agencies.

Recruit, train, and utilize volunteers to assist in program marketing, data collection, and delivery.

Meet established programmatic standards for performance and impact.

Other duties as assigned.

Requirements and Preferences

Minimum Experience/Education:

high‑school diploma or equivalent.

Department Required Skills:

Ability to communicate and teach effectively; ability to organize, collect data, and meet deadlines; ability to build partnerships and engage the community.

Preferred Bilingual:

Fluent in English and Spanish, written and verbal.

Knowledge of the community and social service programs for limited‑resource families; experience teaching and/or working with limited‑resource adults; nutrition education experience.

Valid Driver’s License and reliable personal transportation required; a North Carolina driver’s license must be obtained within 60 days of hire.
