Requirements Effectively communicates in Spanish language. Must be able to pass an extensive Oregon Department of Education background check.
Program Summary Schools Uniting Neighborhoods (SUN) Community Schools provide a comprehensive set of services to the school communities where we serve. IRCO’s SUN Community Schools offer a variety of programs that support student and parent education as well as family stability.
Position Summary The Prenatal to 3rd grade (P3) Program Assistant works closely with the Lincoln Park P3 Coordinator to co‑facilitate the P3 Play and Learn groups and parent workshops for Spanish speaking clients. The P3 Program Assistant may also provide outreach and connect with households who speak Spanish to share about P3 opportunities for them and their students. This position offers a limited number of hours per week, with all hours primarily happening on one day each week and total hours per week will not exceed 5 hours.
Essential Functions
Use good judgment when working with youth in a school or preschool setting.
Treat youth and adults respectfully while executing classroom management.
Follow guidance and instructions of the P3 Coordinator to co‑facilitate age‑appropriate curricula for children aged 1-5 years old enrichment classes (e.g., art, circle time, music, sensory, etc.).
Ensure a high level of confidentiality and professionalism when working with students and families.
Occasionally support school family nights and special events.
Attend all required staff meetings and P-3 program orientations.
Develop culturally responsive and respectful relationships with students, their families, and the community members we serve.
Utilize bilingual skills to support effective communication with students, families, and clients in Spanish.
Secondary Functions
Actively work to disrupt racism and systematic oppression through inclusive program practice and implementation.
Support resource referrals for Spanish speaking clients, when applicable.
Education & Experience We are looking for applicants who are genuinely enthusiastic and passionate about early learner education and family engagement. Applicants should communicate proactively and respectfully and be able to relate to people from diverse socioeconomic levels and cultures.
Minimum Job Specific Qualifications
Must effectively communicate in Spanish.
Must be 18 years or older.
Must be able to pass an extensive Oregon Department of Education background check prior to starting work.
Must have a High School degree (or equivalent experience in the field).
Must be flexible, dependable, and have excellent multitasking skills.
Must be willing to complete mandatory training on child abuse reporting, program safety, and any other required topics.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working directly with youth 1 to 5 years old in groups of 15 or more.
Experience implementing lesson plans for early learners.
Experience with age‑appropriate classroom management and behavior management.
Experience leading activities with groups of adults and children.
Physical, Mental, & Environmental Requirements
All work takes place in person in a public‑school setting.
Work under close supervision of the Lincoln Park P3 Coordinator.
Well protected environment in a school building with minimal hazards or obstacles.
Stable work schedule with no fluctuations. Play and Learn groups run in 8‑week sessions with several weeks off between sessions.
Supervisory Responsibilities Positions at this level are not responsible for any supervisory functions, but may occasionally be asked to orient and/or train new employees or volunteers.
Required Engagement Engage fully in recommended professional development, as well as other assigned or required training activities. This engagement can also include participation in optional activities that embrace IRCO’s mission, vision, and values based initiatives.
