What To Expect We seek a highly motivated, experienced, hands‑on Electrical and Controls engineer with proven leadership abilities for a position in the Manufacturing Test Engineering group as part of the “machine that builds the machine”. The group is focused on creating robust, beautiful, data‑centric production testing equipment for Tesla’s high voltage electronic components in vehicle, stationary storage and humanoid robot applications.

What You’ll Do
Lead a team of 6+ engineers in electrical and controls system design for automated test systems, including support of build, debug, validation, and duplication efforts
Architect automated test equipment, preparing detailed multiline schematics in EPLAN and AutoCAD electrical
Develop PLC programs and HMIs from scratch in Siemens TIA Portal (+WinCC) and Allen Bradley Rockwell Studio 5000 (+Ignition)
Analyze safety performance level (PL) requirements for high voltage, fully automated test systems and implement robust, compliant, and simple safety hardware and programming
Develop PLC software standards for high volume test equipment that are simple to program, commission, and maintain, collaborating cross‑functionally with other automation stakeholders at Tesla
Selection and integration of commercial off‑the‑shelf components such as IO cards, data acquisition systems, power supplies and contactors; including development of team standards for such equipment
Progressively reduce the cost, development time, and non‑value add time of test equipment through development of standards and collaboration with internal teams and external suppliers
Lead conceptual equipment development and carefully balance product specifications, process requirements, integration complexity, maintainability, cost, and lead‑time
Grow and mentor the team by providing technical guidance, reviewing designs, and sharing constructive feedback
What You’ll Bring
3+ years of experience in people management, leading teams of engineers, with responsibility for recruiting and performance management
5+ years of experience in project management, leading projects or subsystems with multiple disciplines with exemplary skills communicating technical details to diverse stakeholders
7+ years of experience as an Electrical, Mechatronics, or Controls Engineer with focus in automation, machine design, or product development
Versed in Electrical CAD software, such as EPLAN and/or AutoCAD Electrical
Versed in Siemens TIA Portal PLC controls software; Rockwell Studio 5000 and Ignition are a plus
Versed in building Electrical and Controls systems from first principles for new projects including test systems, production machinery, and industrial sensors
Degree in Electrical, Computer, or Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent experience

Expected Compensation
$168,320 - $292,800/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
