Location: ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie, North Carolina
Status: Full-time (exempt) – 3 weeks on, 1 week off, 12 weeks off per year.
Salary: Base earnings nearly $300,000, not including call and post‑call incentives. High starting base and up to $100,000 signing bonus.

Job Supervisory Responsibilities: Yes
Schedule and Call: Monday – Friday 6:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. 3 weeks on, one week off. Urgent/emergent cases are performed 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. There are 15 week‑night call shifts per year, one weekend call per month. Call is shared equally & rotated among 4 CRNAs. The CRNA is first call; MD/DO is backup.
Overview ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital is a 114‑bed rural medical center located in Ahoskie, North Carolina. Roanoke‑Chowan serves ~40,000 patients per year and performs ~200 anesthetics each month. The schedule is shared between two anesthesiologists, in a one‑week on, one‑week off format. Surgical cases start at 07:00 and end at 15:00. Call begins at 15:00. First call is shared with the anesthesiologist. The OR is covered by two CRNAs and one anesthesiologist every day, Monday through Friday.
The CRNA will be employed by East Carolina Anesthesia Associates, one of the largest anesthesia private practices in North Carolina. The practice is managed and operated by the anesthesiologists that provide services at its various sites across the state. The structure allows significant autonomy with immediate support as needed. The Eastern teams work collaboratively to ensure CRNAs are comfortably assimilated into their role and practice.
Ahoskie is a rural town in the northeastern part of the state with “small‑town charm.” The town is great for those who want autonomy in work and love the outdoors. It is an hour from Rocky Mount, Greenville, Roanoke Rapids, and about an hour and a half from the Outer Banks and Virginia Beach shorelines.
Job Summary The CRNA will conduct patient evaluations, examination, and medical histories to develop an anesthetic plan and work in oversight with an anesthesiologist. The CRNA monitors the patient during each procedure to ensure safe care with optimal outcomes. The CRNA employs various anesthesia techniques, spinals, arterial lines (A‑lines), intubations, etc., during a variety of general outpatient procedures and surgeries, adjusting the plan accordingly. The CRNA also monitors postoperative care to ensure a safe, quality recovery.
Duties/Responsibilities
Prepares and administers general anesthetics and pain medication, adjusting as needed before, during, and after surgery and other procedures.
Maintains patient records.
Works closely with surgical specialists.
Performs venous and arterial punctures, and may place spinals and A‑lines.
Performs pre‑anesthesia patient evaluation.
Provides post‑anesthesia care and evaluation.
Provides and monitors mechanical ventilation.
Communicates with patients, their families and caregivers.
Reacts appropriately to adverse reactions and complications.
Monitors patient fluid, blood, and electrolyte balance, and other vital signs and critical functions during procedures.
Performs tracheal intubation, airway management, and extubation.
Monitors patients following procedures to determine when they can be safely moved from one stage of recovery to the next.
Takes detailed medical history to determine possible allergic or negative reactions to medication.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education And Experience
Must be a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and obtain licensure through an accredited nursing anesthesia program.
Must be certified by the NC State Board of Nursing.
Minimum 3+ years experience providing anesthetics in a high‑acuity or similar setting.
CRNA must maintain certification and continue education.
