ICEP
The Executive Director (ED) is the Chief Staff Officer of ICEP, reporting to the ICEP Board of Directors. The ED is responsible for strategic leadership, operational management, advocacy, member services, financial sustainability, and ensuring that ICEP fulfills its mission to support emergency physicians in Illinois.
Strategic Leadership & Governance
Partner with the Board of Directors to develop, update, and execute ICEP’s strategic plan.
Serve as staff liaison to all Board meetings, providing agendas, reports, and ensuring timely follow-up on action items.
Facilitate annual board elections and committee appointments.
Support and advise volunteer leaders, including committee chairs and workgroups, to advance the organization’s mission.
Data‑informed decision‑making and strategic foresight.
Member Relations & Services
Oversee membership growth, retention, and engagement.
Ensure delivery of high‑quality continuing medical education (CME) programs, meetings, and professional development opportunities.
Lead communication strategies to keep members informed and engaged, including newsletters, digital platforms, and the ICEP website.
Develop digital and hybrid engagement models to serve members statewide.
Education & Training
Direct the planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational offerings such as annual meetings, seminars, workshops, and webinars.
Ensure compliance with CME accreditation standards and reporting requirements.
Advocacy & Public Affairs
Proactively engage in shaping statewide emergency medicine policy.
Monitor and respond to state legislative, regulatory, and policy developments relevant to emergency medicine.
Collaborate with the organization’s lobbyists or government relations consultants and the Patient and Physician Advocacy Committee to represent ICEP’s policy interests.
Support the drafting of position statements, testimony, and opinion pieces.
Engage members in grassroots advocacy and develop policy positions that support emergency physicians and patients.
Financial Management
Develop, present, and manage the annual budget in alignment with strategic priorities.
Maintain strong financial controls, reporting, and compliance with audit standards.
Oversee state political action committee reporting and financial statements.
Diversify and sustain revenue sources, including membership dues, sponsorships, meeting revenues, grants, and partnerships.
Oversee contracts and vendor relationships.
Staff Leadership & Operations
Recruit, supervise, and mentor staff, fostering a collaborative and high‑performing workplace culture.
Oversee daily operations, including office administration, human resources, technology systems, and membership databases.
Ensure adherence to bylaws, policies, and legal compliance.
External Relations & Communication
Serve as an ICEP spokesperson with external audiences, including partner organizations, media, and the public.
Enhance ICEP’s visibility and reputation through strong public relations, branding, and digital strategies.
Build and maintain strategic partnerships with hospitals, medical schools, government agencies, and healthcare organizations.
Maintain a strong, bidirectional relationship with national ACEP, representing ICEP at live meetings of the executive council twice a year and on regularly planned executive calls, as well as promoting and supporting ICEP members into positions in committees and leadership at the national level.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in non‑profit management, public health, business administration, healthcare administration, or related field.
5–10 years of experience in non‑profit or association management, ideally in a senior level executive position within healthcare or physician membership organizations.
Strong financial management skills, including budgeting, reporting, and audit oversight.
Demonstrated success in advocacy, government relations, or public policy.
Proven ability to develop and manage educational programs (CME, conferences, webinars).
Exemplary written and verbal communication skills; comfort with public speaking and media relations.
Supervisory experience; ability to lead a small staff with diverse responsibilities.
Strategic thinker with strong organizational and relationship‑building skills.
