Thank you for your interest in applying for the tenure‑track DSPS Counseling faculty position in the Disability Support Services area at DVC! We are eager to learn about who you are and why you are passionate about counseling students with disabilities at our community college. We want to know what you are like as a counselor, colleague, and member of a campus community.

We are looking for a colleague who will demonstrate discipline expertise and show sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic backgrounds and abilities of community college students.

We are looking for counselors who share a strong commitment to social and racial justice and who use or are inspired to use anti‑racist approaches that close equity gaps by recognizing, understanding, and respecting the perspectives of all students.

This position requires on‑campus counseling.

Initial interviews will be conducted on campus. We estimate these interviews will be scheduled for the week of March 2, 2026. After the initial interview, a certain number of applicants will be invited back to campus to conduct a brief presentation appropriate to the discipline in front of a group of students and interview committee. Responses to the interview questions and presentation will be rated by the interview committee.

Based on the overall rating, a small number of applicants will be invited for an interview with the college president, vice president of equity and instruction, and vice president of equity and student services. These interviews may take place in‑person or via Zoom. We estimate these interviews will be scheduled for the week of March 16, 2026.

DVC instructors close the equity gaps by fostering success among all students. To help further this work, DVC seeks a tenure‑track DSPS Counselor to start in August 2026.

Initial salary placement for full‑time, tenure‑track positions is based on academic degree(s), upper/graduate level units earned, teaching experience and/or qualifying related professional occupation experience which ranges from $68,136 to $112,848 per year (up to $132k).

Newly hired employees may notify the respective union (Local 1 or United Faculty) if they opt to join and/or authorize payment to the union. If the newly hired employee authorizes payment to the union then the following fees apply: Local 1 has a one‑time initiation fee of $45.00 and monthly contribution of 1% of gross pay +$1. United Faculty has an agency fee of .55% of gross pay plus $2.50.

Upon hire, the successful candidate must meet the conditions of employment. Finalists must provide verification of transcripts. TB test, physical examination, fingerprinting/conviction clearance and proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States.

* Please explain how you meet the following minimum job qualifications: Master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling OR Master’s degree in counseling, guidance counseling, student personnel, clinical or counseling psychology, education counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, marriage, family and child counseling, or a Bachelor’s degree in marriage and family therapy or in marriage, family and child counseling and possession of a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT); and either 15 or more semester units in upper division or graduate level course work related to people with disabilities, or completion of six semester units, or the equivalent of a graduate-level counseling practicum or counseling field work courses, in a post‑secondary Disabled Students Programs and Services program or in a program dealing with people with disabilities, or two years of full time experience, or the equivalent, in one or more of the following: (A) Counseling for students with disabilities; or (B) Counseling in industry, government, public agencies, military or private social welfare organizations in which the responsibilities are for persons with disabilities, or the equivalent.
