The Role We are seeking a Field Service Representative who is passionate about the ocean and is eager to impact how people understand and explore this critical habitat. Your mechanical aptitude and boating experience will be key to your success. This customer‑facing role requires strong technical expertise, professional communication, and a proactive problem‑solving mindset. You will work closely with customers, engineers, and field operators to ensure seamless deployments, technical support, and hands‑on operation of WAM‑V ASVs and OPTs PowerBuoys.
Responsibilities
Perform crewed and uncrewed vessel operation and maintenance in domestic and international locations.
Provide quayside and offshore support for PowerBuoy deployment preparations, deployment, and recovery as needed.
Ensure the entire RaaS fleet is properly maintained, serviced, and ready for deployment.
Provide global remote or in‑person customer support.
Build and test mechanical assemblies from both detailed (production) drawings and prototyping drawings.
Prepare as‑built drawings, packing lists, and QC‑related documentation.
Perform QC on third‑party and in‑house components and assemblies.
Follow operational and manufacturing best practices for the marine environment and robotics systems.
Design, set up, and maintain dedicated workstations, manufacturing jigs, and tools.
Required Qualifications
Boating experience, preferably a minimum of 2 years on ocean boats, primarily near coastal areas, including docking, trailering, boat maintenance, and safety.
Willingness to study for and obtain a California boating license if one is not already held.
Approximately 3 years of hands‑on experience with mechanical and low‑voltage systems.
Proficiency with small hand and power tools.
Familiarity with mechanical and electrical assemblies on a boat.
Knowledge of best practices in boat maintenance (e.g., marine corrosion).
Ability to work with minimal direction while knowing when to ask for input or help.
Positive and hardworking attitude; ability to function well with a team and remain calm under pressure.
Valid U.S. passport.
Valid U.S. Driver’s License.
Ability to attain U.S. security clearance if required.
Desired Qualifications
Experience on the back deck of offshore construction vessels.
Electrical and electromechanical assembly build‑out and testing.
Experience with machine tools (mill, lathe, etc.).
Experience TIG or MIG welding aluminum and steel.
Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, marine engineering, or a related field.
