Departmental Overview The Division of Equity & Inclusion leads campus‑wide efforts to transform UC Berkeley into a learning and working environment where everyone belongs and thrives. It works with students, staff, and faculty to integrate equity, inclusion, diversity, belonging, and justice into all aspects of campus life. The Division provides leadership and accountability to resolve systemic inequities through research, teaching, public service, and expanding pathways for access and success.
Responsibilities
The Project Manager reports to the Director for Faculty & Departmental Diversity Initiatives and leads program/project administration for academic transformation initiatives, networks, and projects.
Program Management and Coordination:
Schedules, manages, and tracks the overall calendar of events, convenings, seminars, retreats and meetings in E&I’s Faculty and Departmental Diversity Initiatives portfolio.
Manages departmental planning for DEIBJ, oversees key networks of DEIBJ leaders, provides departmental and divisional consulting on DEIBJ issues, coordinates training & professional development, and supports meetings with high‑level stakeholders.
Handles overall project/program administration, including event logistics, communications, creation and dissemination of meeting materials, intake of consulting requests, training coordination, program infrastructure development, ordering and reimbursements, and staffing of meetings.
Website and Communication: creates and maintains the primary web pages and microsites on the E&I site; analyzes and updates policies and resources; develops communication tools to support related networks and communities of practice.
Chancellor’s Award for Advancing Institutional Excellence and Equity (CAAEIEE): manages the yearly cycle, campus‑wide nomination and selection process, and plans/staffs the annual award reception.
Ad‑hoc and Special Projects: supports special requests, emerging projects, and one‑time events; analyzes and reports post‑survey data; researches literature and data from peer institutions; partners with the Director to develop tools and resources.
General Administrative Support: provides purchasing, reimbursements, ordering and event logistics; maintains familiarity with campus systems.
Required Qualifications
Commitment and knowledge on equity, inclusion and diversity in higher education.
Advanced project development and management skills, including multifaceted portfolio management.
Advanced knowledge in administrative areas such as event planning, information management, risk management, website management, budgeting, and accounting.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with faculty, staff, and administrators.
Advanced active listening, critical thinking, and synthesis skills.
Research skills and experience ideally in DEIBJ and/or higher education.
Experience working with higher education faculty, staff, or administrators.
Knowledge of campus processes, protocols, and procedures.
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of campus‑specific computer applications.
Ability to multi‑task with demanding timeframes and maintain confidentiality.
Highly organized, collaborative spirit, and commitment to collective care and support.
Education/Training
Bachelor’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience or training.
Salary & Benefits The budgeted salary range is $80,000 – $93,000. This 12‑month, 100 % full‑time (40 hours per week), contract position is eligible for full UC benefits with the possibility of extension. The position is exempt and paid monthly; it is hybrid, eligible for up to 40 % remote capability.
