What you’ll do
Lead a team of highly skilled software engineers and drive the development of digital solutions for customers and business partners, including order management, customer management, marketing, production, inventory and planning optimisation, loyalty, merchandise, servicing and repairs, mobile app, vehicle connectivity, and more.
Work with engineering managers, senior engineers, and cross‑functional partners to design the technical underpinnings of products.
Be hands‑on building key systems and be directly responsible for the successful delivery of complex and large‑scale technical efforts.
Mentor technical teams and set high standards for engineering practices.
Assess tools and technology decisions to power the digital product ecosystem, influencing build/buy/partner choices.
Develop technology and best practices that support scalable, functional, and reliable software products and integrations.
Lead teams to execute short‑term and long‑term roadmaps, designing, coding, deploying and operating technical architecture.
Scope and lead large technical projects, shaping early‑stage products to evolve and scale while shoring up reliability of existing systems.
Champion engineering excellence, establishing and refining metrics and processes.
Recruit and manage a team of software engineers, setting the bar for quality development.
Location & Travel Expectations
Based out of a Scout Motors location in Fremont, CA.
Requires attendance in the office with in‑person meetings and events regularly.
Occasional travel to participate in events on behalf of the company.
What you’ll bring
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or related field.
10+ years of experience in software engineering and scaling software products, providing technical leadership and direction, preferably in e‑commerce, payments, digital products, and back‑end platform development.
Comprehensive understanding of APIs, microservices, and other complex backend systems.
Strong coding skills in Go, Java, Kotlin, and Swift, with experience building and managing CI/CD pipelines for web and mobile releases.
Knowledge of system vulnerabilities and prevention methods.
Experience operating in start‑up settings, launching 0‑to‑1 products, supporting low‑code tools, and driving graduation to customized applications.
Experience as a technical lead for large projects (6+ months), defining roadmaps across multiple teams and functions.
Ability to internalise the best ideas from across the organization and set a vision that inspires others.
Experience integrating with third‑party platforms and partnering with external service providers.
4+ years leading high‑performing software engineering teams, demonstrating the ability to guide, motivate, and inspire.
Preferred
Experience building data pipelines, AI/ML, and web/mobile analytics.
Experience building systems in the auto industry.
Full‑stack development expertise.

Initial base salary range = $180,000.00 - $230,000.00
Initial California base salary range = $220,000.00 - $253,000.00
