Title: Alumni & Donor Engagement Organizer
Terms: This is a hybrid full‑time position. The role requires flexibility; some events, meetings, and a portion of the role will take place in the evenings and weekends. Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.

Student Action with Farmworkers (SAF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to bring students and farmworkers together to learn about each other's lives, share resources and skills, improve conditions for farmworkers, and build diverse coalitions.
SAF Programs:
Into the Fields (ITF) – a 10‑week paid summer internship program
Solidaridad (SOL) – a paid academic‑year internship program for college students in the Raleigh‑Durham‑Chapel Hill area
Levante Leadership Institute (LLI) – an academic‑year paid leadership development program for high school students in Johnston County
Cosecha – a 10‑month leadership support program for SAF alumni working in the social justice movement
Position Summary:
The Alumni & Donor Engagement Organizer leads SAF’s efforts to strengthen relationships with alumni and donors, ensuring ongoing support for the organization’s mission. The role coordinates grassroots fundraising initiatives, cultivates and stewards individual donors, and engages alumni through events, communications, and leadership opportunities. Responsibilities include overseeing direct mail campaigns, donor acknowledgements, fundraising events, and managing SAF’s donor database in partnership with the Operations Manager.
The Organizer also develops and implements alumni engagement strategies, such as monthly meetups, homecoming events, newsletters, and storytelling projects, to maintain active connections with SAF’s diverse network of alumni. The position involves general administrative responsibilities, community outreach, and participation in advocacy campaigns and coalition work that align with SAF’s mission.
Ideal candidates are bilingual (English/Spanish), highly organized, and committed to building relationships and advancing social justice. Alumni and those with experience in community organizing, donor relations, or grassroots fundraising are strongly encouraged to apply.
Duties & Responsibilities Grassroots Fundraising (50%)
Lead individual donor fundraising (coordinate direct mail mailings, manage online fundraising efforts, meet with donors, coordinate donor acknowledgements, serve on fundraising team)
Recruit & maintain major donors and monthly donors
Maintain up‑to‑date giving information on website, listserv, & GuideStar
Coordinate the annual Pottery Sale event
Work with Operations Manager to maintain accuracy of NEON database and pull donor reports for campaigns
Train and lead grassroots & student fundraisers with NEON/Give Butter and fundraising campaigns
Develop relationships with and coordinate small grant requests and reports to local businesses, nonprofits, and faith‑based groups
Alumni Engagement & Communications (35%)
Work closely with the Communications Arts Director to develop a schedule for promotional materials for fundraising campaigns
Co‑create media content and graphics with Communications Arts Director
Develop the monthly newsletter in conjunction with the Communications Arts Director
Coordinate and execute alumni Homecoming events
Arrange monthly alumni meet‑ups
Lead alumni documentary efforts (interviews)
Help with Cosecha recruitment
Keep alumni engaged through alumni map, socials, and national alumni advisory group
Promote alumni work, keep in touch via listservs, website & social media
General Administrative duties (10%)
Write annual goals & objectives, workplan, budget, and monthly progress reports
Attend SAF board and staff meetings, preparing and distributing reports as needed
Support SAF’s development and fundraising initiatives
Conduct community outreach to the general community, farmworkers, and partnering organizations
Organizing & Advocacy (5%)
Stay up to date on advocacy and organizing campaigns, and promote campaigns via listservs, website, and social media
Engage program participants and alums in campaigns through direct actions and online actions
Participate in coalitions supporting lobbying/advocacy, and support other programs as needed
Preferred Experience and Education
Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or humanities preferred
Strong project management and organizational skills
Grassroots fundraising experience preferred
SAF alumni preferred
Qualifications
Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English required
Two or more years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, or nonprofit development (grassroots fundraising experience strongly preferred)
Strong relationship‑building skills, with the ability to connect with a diverse range of donors, alumni, and community partners
Demonstrated experience coordinating fundraising campaigns, events, or appeals (direct mail, online giving, peer‑to‑peer fundraising, etc.)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience creating donor communications, newsletters, or promotional content
Strong organizational and project management skills; ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Proficiency in donor database systems (e.g., NEON, Salesforce, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
Experience managing volunteers, interns, or alumni networks preferred
Familiarity with or commitment to social justice, farmworker issues, and SAF’s mission
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small team setting, with flexibility to attend occasional evening and weekend events
Enthusiasm, creativity, and initiative in engaging supporters and alumni in meaningful ways
Benefits SAF provides North Carolina Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance; dental and vision through Delta Dental, with SAF covering 100 % of the premium costs. Vacation leave:
0–2 years: 15 days per year ,
2–4 years: 17 days per year ,
4+ years: 20 days per year . Employees may carry over up to 20 days. 13 holiday days per year prorated for 40 hour weeks. Employees receive 12 personal days per year. Parental & disability leave: 20 days paid parental leave; up to 40 days of personal/vacation time for 12‑week paid leave. Salary: base salary of $51,500 per year for bilingual positions; final offer set by experience and education per SAF’s union contract. SAF automatically deposits 3 % of an employee’s salary into a retirement account with Guideline.
