Metals Service Center Operations Lead (Processing & Distribution) Location: Grand Prairie / Dallas, TX — O’Neal Steel

Step into a second-shift leadership role where pace, precision, and people development intersect. Picture the scene: you arrive for the evening handoff, walk the floor to confirm equipment status, pull up ShopLogix to review machine efficiency trends, and huddle with your warehouse and delivery teams to align on the production plan. From there, you orchestrate processing, loading, and shipments—keeping safety tight, quality high, and on-time delivery on target—while supporting our hub-and-spoke model with fast, accurate, dependable execution.

What you’ll lead

Supervise warehouse and delivery team members: set schedules, track performance, drive productivity, and manage payroll timecards.

Ensure all team members have the right training, work instructions, and tools to do the job right.

Own the production work schedule—coordinate, assign, and adjust in real time to meet customer delivery dates; fill vacancies and assign overtime as needed.

Uphold quality: verify that processed materials meet or exceed established standards.

Champion lean principles and Visual Factory / 5S to fuel continuous improvement and housekeeping excellence.

Evaluate service levels and recommend staffing to match demand.

Plan and coordinate equipment and facility maintenance with the maintenance team to maximize uptime; support preventive maintenance schedules.

Administer policies, procedures, and work rules; monitor individual and line performance to ensure consistent compliance.

Manage departmental budgets and align performance to established goals.

Resolve internal/external customer issues promptly and build strong team morale.

Hit KPI targets: OTD, QDR, LTA, MH/Ton and any other established metrics.

Deliver error-free work to internal and external customers.

Processing-specific impact

Publish written production schedules, distribute them to machine operators, and monitor timely completion.

Coordinate workflow across all involved departments; modify schedules to account for unforeseen delays and expedite overdue orders.

Use ShopLogix data to drive ongoing improvements in machine efficiency.

Collaborate with Sales on time studies, material usage, and operational improvements.

Work variance reports on processing orders to correct allocations and resolve discrepancies.

Continuously adjust work order start dates in line with requested dates to keep lead-time schedules accurate.

What you bring

3 years of supervisory/leadership experience in a steel service center, metals processing/manufacturing, or warehouse/distribution environment (steel processing and service center experience strongly preferred).

Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing.

Background in safety training, truck scheduling, and routing.

Strong computer aptitude with advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency.

Valid Driver’s License.

Education Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations, Logistics, or Supply Chain preferred. Candidates without a degree but with equivalent training and experience will be considered.
