We are hiring a

Ubuntu Core Software Engineer

to innovate the Linux experience in embedded environments with the smallest, most secure, and updatable OS in the IoT market. This role is ideal for a software engineer passionate about open source, Linux, security, and developer experience. It requires strong technical skills in low-level OS, kernel, and device firmware.

Our mission is to enable building robust solutions in IoT, automotive, aviation, and other fields using a next-generation secure embedded Linux OS. We focus on reliable device recovery mechanisms to simplify and standardize field operations for heterogeneous device fleets.

As part of the Ubuntu Core team, you will design and implement software for various CPU architectures like ARM, RISC-V, and x86, working on boot mechanisms, bootloaders, storage layouts, device trees, kernels, and services.

Location :

This role is remote within the EMEA region

The role entails

Writing high-quality code with unit tests for new features

Debugging Linux system issues and fixing them with quality code

Collaborating proactively with a distributed team

Reviewing code from other engineers

Discussing ideas and collaborating on solutions

Integrating diverse bootloaders and maintaining gadget snaps

Working remotely with global travel 2-4 times annually for events

What we are looking for in you

A passion for technology and collaboration with talented people

Curiosity, flexibility, articulation, and accountability

Soft skills: passionate, enterprising, thoughtful, self-motivated

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or similar

Experience with C or Golang, Shell scripting

Solid understanding of Linux, preferably Debian or Ubuntu

Experience with Linux-capable devices like Raspberry Pi

Interest or experience in low-level systems and security features such as bootloaders, systemd, Linux security implementations (TPM, FDE, LUKS, HSM), etc.

Knowledge of Yocto is a plus
