GEICO is seeking an
Associate Counsel
to defend lawsuits filed in California courts and handle other first-party insurance defense matters. The position is with GEICO Staff Counsel, located in San Francisco, Sacramento, Concord, San Diego, and Los Angeles.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
Render opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department.
Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, discovery, depositions/examinations before trial, examinations under oath, and defend by trial or dispositive hearing, as applicable.
Qualifications
2-6+ years of litigation experience in insurance defense and/or personal injury (REQUIRED).
Juris Doctor degree (REQUIRED).
Admission to the California Bar (REQUIRED).
Must be licensed and in good standing in California, with ability to meet licensing and CLE requirements.
Willing to travel as needed for trials, hearings, depositions, etc.
Ability to document files clearly and professionally.
Strong organizational, conflict resolution, and multi-tasking skills.
Ability to learn and apply technical and procedural information.
Preferred Qualifications
Civil litigation experience.
Insurance defense litigation experience.
Professional communication skills in person, via phone, and email.
Location Remote, California.
Salary Range $118,900.00 - $186,550.00 annually, based on multiple factors including experience, education, and location.
